Fake exhaust on E class... Is it only on the diesel engines!?
Saw this video, but shock at 05:25
Why does it have fake exhaust? It does have the amg package... Is it for environmental reasons?
I saw the E400 in another video but it had a real exhaust.

Shows the different priorities mercedes has than even 10 years ago. My W211 bluetec has dual exhaust, and both are hidden. Tips weren't even an option on my model. Back in 2007, a flashy (real) dual or quad exhaust was reserved for mostly performance cars. Now your average KIA has it, so it seems silly to be faking it. I kinda like BMW's approach with the F10 535d where they simply keep the single-side exhaust. Makes it look a little more understated and elegant than the gaudy split pipes on the 535i/550.

i think you will find ALL w213s (diesel and petrol) including the E400 and E63 have fake exhaust tips
I'm sure C, GLE, GLS, S all wear fake tips as well. Off the top of my head the only member of current mercedes range with genuine exhaust tips is the G-class. The only difference between petrol an diesel is that diesel versions point downwards, while petrol versions fire straight through the fake tips.

my 2015 E250 has tips that are not fake. hey split the 4 cyl exhaust into two and they exit through the tips. My 2005 CDI had hidden dual exhaust

the w213 e250 has the same engine as in the e200 tuned for higher power. The exhaust is the same . In my book this is a fake tip, you can clearly see the actual exhaust tip trough the fake crome ornamental tip

if you have an exhaust tip that is attached to the body of a car (bumper) alarm bells should start ringing that it probably is fake. Exhaust systems move around, a lot of them are held in position by hooks and a rubber thingy to allow for some movement. Plus let's not forget exhausts get pretty hot even at the (real) tips and most bumpers are plastic.

Every owner may have his/her own opinion. Mine is that I would be ashamed to drive a big Mercedes with a fake exhaust pipe. I'm sure younger MB owners have a different view.
Hopefully our coming 213 will not have fake pipes but I'm afraid it does. A plug-in hybrid, have to try to use the electric motor when starting ahead of another car...
By the way, my 222 does not have fake pipes. It does not have any decoration at all. Just hidden twin pipes at one side.

Don't lose hope I think the E63 gets real ones as part of the AMG performance exhaust, for a small fee, of course

Nope! it's fake too! like I said earlier the G wagon is the only Mercedes I know in the current line up with Real exhaust tips. Even the tips on the AMG GT is fake and if that is fake, you are asking for the Moon expecting lesser models to have real ones.
you'll be surprised how many cars have fake tips

and why do people care if the tips are real or not?? that is the dumbest complaint I have ever seen. The exhaust tips are right behind those "fake" tips, so exhaust still flows through them, but they don't get dirty like true exhaust tips. People should be jumping for joy that they get great looking exhaust that doesn't get dirty after a short drive.

Not exactly. Many are strictly for show with no connection whatsoever to the exhaust system. The reason for a dual exhaust system is for performance. If there are no performance gains, why be burdened with the extra plumbing and weight.

there is not an MB in production with dual fake tips that don't have real exhaust behind them. And are you seriously implying that a couple feet of 2" metal tubing on a large luxury sedan is extra weight? Go buy a lotus exige if this is bothering you that much. Then again... they also have fake dual exhaust so you'd probably complain on that forum, too.

why would a 4 cylinder have a true dual exhaust?

When you look at the back of the car, it is symmetrical. And exhaust flows out of each tip. what more could you possibly want?

One turbo doesn't preclude twin exhaust pipes, it just precludes discreet separate exhaust systems. Loads of single turbo cars have exhaust systems that branch out to twin rear silencers, some split close to manifold others branch out from a single rear box so you get separate tips. Crazy that so much is being made of all this.
Base model c class diesel have no exhaust tips on show, real or fake, and look rubbish. The fake twin tips on higher models look far nicer. I'm clearly with the majority here else automakers wouldn't do this so often!
While you're having a go about the fake exhaust tips, what about all those fake air inlets on lower bumpers that are rife these days. Just as fake, just for show, as just as much to looks and nothing more.
