Quote: Update: My car has an actual, real life problem - nothing to do with the electronics.

The turbocharger needs to be replaced. Apparently, the failure only registered in real time (with the car attached to diagnostics while running). Nothing appeared in the fault log when viewed later.
I doubt it is fixed after this. How could a bad turbo bring an oil level warning to the cluster? Hope I'm wrong.

Two separate issues - not connected.

Although it's frustrating and I'm the unlucky one, this doesn't seem to be a common problem.
TBH, I was more cheesed off about the lack of humility around the issue of a car ordered in August not being delivered until six months later (following an initial lead time of four months, which was already a damning indictment of their ability to manage a supply chain).
I know it isn't what people in this forum want to hear, but I never had any of this nonsense in the past when I ordered three consecutive new 5 series cars.
I will write to Mercedes about the extended delivery and unapologetic automated update on delays followed by the quality issues compounded by poor diagnosis, but I have a feeling I'll get a cut and paste reply in return.
This car cost £45,000 with options and it will have been at the dealer for two weeks of its short life. The technicians have done almost as many miles me!
[Edit: £45,000 = $55,000]

I did ask myself that question.

It's probably worth noting that the "Reduce oil level" error only appeared around a minute after the vehicle went into limp mode.

I think that error may have been a symptom following the root cause of the turbocharger leaving the field of play. We'll see.

Just to close the loop on this issue...

I got the E Class back today complete with replacement turbocharger. Having driven the car for at least 1.5 hours today with a mix of A road, motorway and town driving including lots of acceleration events, everything seems okay.

Oh, and I guess the cup of tea they gave me was to compensate for the two weeks they had my car...
