Thule Aero Bars
Has anyone tried these with the S213 Panoramic Roof? I am wondering if the glass will hit the cross bars? The Mercedes cross bars are ridiculously high & even then the dealer tells me they somehow prevent the roof from opening.

Having a '17-E400-wagon w/pano wanting to mount roof rack for bikes, Kayak and other outdoor travel uses, also. The Pano roof clearance is a question with any cross bars.
Plus 1 for Thule aero for quiet freeway flyer from air noise.
Any Pros and cons from others with racks on there automobiles would be appreciated.
Thanks

2017 E400 Wagon
Bike Rack Observations
I have the 2017 E Wagon with pan roof. Bought the MB cross bars and Thule bike racks.
Observations:
I no longer can open the roof. It is restricted to tilting the back opening.
The Thule bars are over-engineered and too not very easy to use when placing the bikes in the rack.
If anyone is interested in the bike racks, let me know. They were $200 per rack new.
I'm in Sarasota, FL

Got the MB cross bars and bike racks. Pano roof is only tilting not fully opening (by design). If anybody is going to order the MB equipment, make sure you get the right adapter fasteners. My dealer omitted to tell me about / order these, and I spent an afternoon questioning my handyman skills when the racks didn't fit the bars....

Solution!
I just received and installed the Thule 9595B Kit (wingbar Edge Black 9595B, Fit Kit 4055) and it great!
Low profile, minimal wind noise and best of all the sunroof still **** and opens!!! Way better than the silly OEM solution.

Thats great to hear Gorilla! Just for clarity do you have the standard sunroof size or Panoramic sunroof option on your E wagon. Thanks for the detailed part numbers as well.

You can then safely transport two bikes and three passengers in your wagon with nothing on the roof. The only problem I find is that there are three of us and three bikes, so this only works when two of us want to go biking.

Here are some photos of the bike "rack" on the basement floor. I bought a piece of birch wood and stained it similar to the wood on the inside of the car. You need to set up your bikes so they both fit. The back tires face the front of the car. Our hybrid bikes also fit. If your bike is too tall, you can remove the seat. The first photo shows the bottom of the wooden board. All you need to keep it in place is to cut it so it just fits side to side. I also put some Velcro on the bottom so it grips the carpeting.

Long Islander, That brings to mind of K.I.S.S and it works. This solves the 2 guys get away weekend to carry 2 bikes, Kayaks, and extra gear simultaneously.
I hesitate on the thought of anything on the roof also, just yet, Not out of the question but would like to enjoy newness of the design lines of vehicle for a while. Having vans , 4x4 trucks and this will be my 3 rd also most expensive but largest wagon. Never had an interest in an SUV, just rather do with other.
Thanks for sharing of the pictures and the detail explanation. Very Very helpful.

Now you have me wondering whether I can mount three bikes and still have use of one rear seat (on the right side). I suppose I could see how tightly I could squeeze the bikes together after removing pedals from the bike in the middle.

panoramic sunroof operation on e400 wagon
The panoramic sunroof on my 2017 E400 wagon only opens half way and will only close inch by inch when pushing the button multiple times. I have Thule aero cross bars installed but they dont physically impead the sunroof. Is this normal? Is there a sensor that restricts the use of the sunroof when crossbars are installed?

What adapter fasteners? I don't live near a dealer so I'm planning to order the OEM crossbars online. I sent in a query to the shop (MBOEMParts.com) asking if I needed anything else to install the bars but haven't heard back in 48 hours. Are the fastener adapters only for the bike rack or needed to install the cross bars to the rails?
Thanks in advance!
