Is anyone elses trim around the cup holder peeling apart? the brushed aluminum thin line that goes around it is peeling apart, it feels like a cheap thin aluminum that you use in the kitchen. Very disappointed as the car is barely used or has it even seen a cup, just a cell phone storage. Will post pictures when I get a chance.
Not that it is any help to you, but that trim is part of the cup holder compartment and not the panel.

On my car that trim is part of the console! I'm not sure how it would become detached except mechanically. Maybe there is a failure of the glue: holding the trim?

No it isnt, all aluminum trims are part of each module, it is not part of the console.
I have always wondered, are these silver trim pieces made from real aluminium or they are just painted plastic pieces?
It is real metal although very thin, a conductive copper base coat is applied using electroplating, then you can apply different metallic finishes on top of that srface.

How about for switches and buttons such as the seat control, air con buttons, door handles? They kinda have a metallic feel but they don't quite feel like solid metal pieces.

Aircon and seat adjuster buttons are plastic, door handles are solid
Here's a picture of a 2018 model, center consoles in matching finishes are now available, but you need to specify this in the order as the trim pieces and the center console use separate SA-codes, 736 for black ash trim and 737 for black ash console.

Update on my console, the dealer changed the cupholder but managed to chip the black console at multiple places. Need to know how to approach this, as they have damage my car every single time it was in for service.

Cannot understand how a dealer could mess up such an easy install.
Tell them that you would like some compensation for all the damage and extra trips caused.

I think they hired anyone with a pulse to work on the cars. They've managed to damage and rip the leather on my door, install roof spoiler incorrectly in return it flew off, scratch and damage passenger door, broke off the bolt on the hinge and had to drill the bolt out, reinstalled hing incorrectly. The drivers leather came apart on the bottom, I think there are a few more that I cant remember. Its been ridiculous.
I am in Texas and went to my dealership today. They told me they cannot get this replacement part. I am officially depressed. The matte wood looks so much nicer!

Correct, it is an easy install.
Part is ordered directly from Mercedes, dont know about availability on other markets than Europe I am afraid.

As i have the open pore wood on the dashboard i would like the exact same part as you.
Now i can see why it was the price it was especially if it contains the lighting component etc , plus the wood trim is not just wood: its layers and layers and layers backed by metal for the structure so in an accident it doesn’t skewer you lol.
Now just to fix that annoying rattle around the ear height of the drivers door (RHD here in Oz) which the dealer cant seem to locate either. Grrrr

I do have another question, when you were taking off the centre console and the COMAND controller do you think it would be possible to change the location of the Parking Pilot button? Sitting on the right side its always obscured by the COMAND controller.
