Aftermarket or OEM Illuminated Star

Hello

I am considering getting the illuminated star for my E300 and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the route I should take. I got my E300 back in January and I have a 4 year lease on it (So I give it back January 2021). When I got my E300 at the time the dealership could not find any of them with the colors and options I wanted that had the illuminated star, so I had to get mine without it.

I would like to get a cheap illuminated star and install it myself or have a shop that works on only Mercedes install it for me (they are family friends and neighbors of my parents so I trust them). I think the OEM part from Mercedes is about $850 before labor which seems pricy.

So, does anyone know where I can get an illuminated star or a specific one from an aftermarket seller or possibly an OEM one that is cheaper? I do not want it to look cheap but I do realize that with it being aftermarket it has the risk of looking cheaper.

Thanks.

I could have went with the hood emblem star but decided against that because it would look awkward since there is a giant star in the grill. Which is why I want to go with the illuminated star.

My sister has it on her CLA and it looks good at night. Also I've seen it on other cars at night and I think its a nice touch.

If you like it thats all you need. Personally, Im not a bling fan. I ordered my car debadged. The hood ornament is only available in the luxury package which has an entire separate list of options. If you didnt order it I should be an easy retrofit or change order. I dont know if it can be done with the p3 package since that is where the main radar is at. If it is, the price will probably be significant.

I know it is not available with P3 because the Drive Pilot sensors are behind the grill star and I already have mine, I got it back in January but I don't think it would be too hard to install one. I just want to find a good aftermarket one instead of spending around 1K on a new one from Mercedes.

Original parts of course,
your car wasnt built using cheap parts made in China, why not keep it that way?

Star assembly
A213 817 46 00 ~$260

Cable harness
A205 820 44 00 ~$48

Pricing is directly translated from Swedish currency so they might differ a lot.

But 1K?, who has quoted you that?, it is a 45 minute job, tops.

Thanks I'm guessing these are parts from the dealership? Also when I was getting my car back in January I asked the dealership how much it would cost to buy the star and have them install it (since I was getting the car from them) and they told me it would be close to $1K so I didn't even bother because that was ridiculous. Granted that could have been a rough estimation by my salesperson. But I did not get pricing for it from other dealerships.

I put an ebay $60 special on my wife's ML. Works fine, fits fine, and saved me $$ that I can use on something else, like illuminated sills.

I'm getting luxury line (exclusive line) and it has the classic grille + drive pilot, so they have a few different configurations on where they can house the sensors

My question is will Mercedes pay you for advertising on this moving billboard? This is a ridiculous waste of money at any price.

Of course, they will also send you an invoice if you were to debadge your vehicle using the same principle.

No doubt your car must have the illuminated star and the trade mark on the mirror lighting. If it rings your bell, go for it. It's not my money, just my opinion and that's free.

I purchased the illuminated star for my 14 CLA 250 as I was compelled by it's initial hype when it debuted. I installed it myself as I wanted to avoid the cost of installation. After having it for a while, the hype when away after a few weeks. I believe it's not worth the cost that it sells for and doesn't really bring any added value to the car.
