Software updates
Just took my W213 to the dealer and asked about updating the navigation and other software. The service advisor said they could update the navigation but are not able to determine if any other updates are available or to apply them. I thought things like drivepilot, smart cruise control, automatic breaking, etc. might be updated periodically. The advisor said there are dozens of software systems in the car and they don't keep track of updates for them. Does this sound right? Is your experience the same?

That doesn't sound right to me. With your vin in hand ask him/her firmly but politely to give you a list of all the updates for the vehicle. As everything is online and not in a filling cabinet locked in a store room, they should be able to run a quick check. Sounds like your advisor was just being lazy and trying to fob you off. And as for not keeping track, it's their job to know how to find that out.

I think Mercedes me is only going to tell you about user interface software, not firmware updates for the boxes in the car. But 100 precent agree with the earlier post, vin should be enough for dealer to tell you. It's possible they don't get paid for non essential changes so are reluctant to tell you about them.

That's always been MB standard response to any update. However if you go in and complain about a specific subsubsystem and ask for an update on it, they'll update it if there's an update available. And normally they just don't update those systems mentioned just to update them, they only do that when there's a problem and you can usually search the web or read about it in this forum if there's a new update that came out. Usually things like bluetooth get updated.
