SmartKey detection function is malfunctioning

Keyless-Go not working. I can’t unlock or lock doors by touching door handle nor can I open trunk via foot. When I turn car on, I get this message: “Place the Key in the Marked Space See Operatot’s Manual.” In my messages, it says: “The SmartKey detection function is malfunctioning.” Any idea what the problem is and how to fix this? Key fob battery is new so that’s not the problem.

Are you sure your vehicle has keyless go rather than just keyless ignition?

Yes, Keyless-Go. It’s a 2018 E300. Used keyless entry and trunk for first several weeks with no problems.

Sounds like a trip to dealership is in order. You might get free coffee and biscuits...

Did you try this?

“Place the Key in the Marked Space See Operator’s Manual.”

If not, try this: RTFM ...

A long shot, but might save a trip tp the dealer: swap another "new" battery into the fob. Rarely new batteries have low voltage.

What does your other fob do?

Was there any resolution to this issue? After having m windows tinted my keyless go no longer functions. I cannot open the door or start the car with keyless go. If I manually press the lock/unlock that works and I need to insert the key in the console slot to start the car. I have tried other key fob with the same results. Wondering if there is some sort of reset or if I have to visit the dealer?

Was this issue resolved? One of my keys only work by manually pressing the buttons to lock/unlock and I have to manually insert it into the car to start. The "GO" function doesn't work but obviously it's connected to the vehicle. My wife's key still 100% works fully.

"reboot" key by taking out battery and reinsert .
if that doesn't work, change battery

AMG E63S Wagon
Hi, how did you resolve your issue? I am having the same issue with my AMG E63S and it only has 300 miles brand new. I can open and close car doors by pressing key fob buttons but the car doesn’t turn on with the fob in my pocket. I tried both fobs and same issue. I can only turn the car on by placing the fob inside the little nook in front of cup holder in center console which the manual calls the marked spot to operate in emergency mode. Very annoying and trying to figure out if there is a way to fix this at home...after a lot of online research I think it has something to do with software / driver authorization system / IMMOBILIZER

Have dealer check control unit for water traces and/or corrosion + run Xentry diagnostics of KG system.

I have same issue as soon as the tint was fitted to the rear window I lost keyless control on both fobs . Apparently the tint interferes with the signal to the key as the antenna is built into the rear window

Not a problem with ceramic tints.

I KNEW this had to correlate to my window tints. I just had them done and as soon as I picked the car from the tinter, I could no longer use keyless go. Such a shame. Now I'll have to remove the rare tint (and possibly go with the ceramic) on the rear because I fell in love with keyless go.
