Got back from vacation no start

E400. Put car in standby mode and was away 3 weeks. Car in garage. Go to start it up and the main display tells me everything is a malfunction. Car won’t crank, main display has power right side display won’t work no operating interior lights or locks but car has powe for main display.

pain. Going to have it towed to dealer.

You're battery just died. All the failures are not real, once the battery charges back to normal everything should be fine. If the car is going to be sitting in a garage more than 2 weeks you should use the trickle charger.

.
One can't do that in an airport parking garage. Has anyone figured out how long the battery can last in standby mode? I asked my dealer, but they didn't know.

i put the car in standby mode and it said I have 29 weeks to restart! I was gone 3! Could it be a software glitch?

29 weeks? The manual states that after 3 weeks unspecified damage might result. Where did the 29week figure come from?

A quick jump should have sufficed. As soon as all the goodies sensed that voltage was in range they should stop flashig. Maybe a bad battery?

You do it in the vehicle settings menu.
See page 157 of the operators manual.

So I had a jump, no go, on phone with Mercedes tech, no go. We were about to literally drag the car out of my garage and get it on a flat bed when I alone suggested I go in the house and try to use the other main key. Presto!! Car started without hesitation. It was the f@king key!! All those error lights nothing working and it was the key. Car perfect now. Go figure and a word of warning when leaving car in standby mode for weeks in case this happens to you.

Battery charge insufficient for standby mode

I on the otherhand needed to put it on standby mode and I'm getting the above message. Currently at the stealership... kicker is, they hadn't even heard about that mode! Swapped main battery but message still persists and mode not engaging. The manual says to charge the starter battery if that message showed up; isn't that the main battery? They are running more tests and will update.

I picked up an E400 from factory in Sindelfingen (Germany) and drove 600 miles. When I got to my destination where I was going to park for a week I attempted to put it in standby mode and got the insufficient charge message, which was surprising because I thought the battery should have been fully charged during the drive, if not before, because its a brand new battery. Five weeks after dropping off the car in Sindelfingen it arrived back in US and again would not go into standby mode. I put it on an intelligent trickle charger, which took > 48 hours on high charge before the charger went into battery maintenance (trickle) mode. I wonder if there's something wrong with the charging algorithms in the car that are not maintaining full charge on the battery? After fully charging the battery, I was able to put the car into standby mode.

Did you try putting the key fob in the emergency start slot in the center console? After reading your post I had another go at opening my car using the metal key that's buried in the fob in case something like this happened to me in the future. What a stupid system: it 'works' by using the metal key to pop off a piece of chrome plated plastic trim at the rear of the drivers door handle. Once the trim piece is off, a traditional key hole is exposed to allow the drivers door to be unlocked using the metal key. In principle, you should then be able to start they car by putting the fob in the emergency start slot, even if the key battery is discharged. I'm assuming that was the problem with your key that would not start the car, or did you have to get a new key?

All this is far from clearly explained in the manual, and reinstalling the piece of plastic trim was a pain in the butt.

Based on peoples experiences, it sounds like stand by mode is useless. Ive had cars parked for as long as two months and fired right up no problem.

This is very similar to my outcome! The new battery was still no engaging like I had previously said so the techs decided to charge it a couple of hours. By close of business, my advisor still confirmed the mode was not engaging so I decided to pickup regardless. Well, the car is brought back to me in the service lane and he tries one more time and presto... it starts working!
