I plan on keeping my spare if I sell or trade in my W212. Too many cars coming without them today.

Dumb question: is $82 just for the empty storage bag? Given prices of jack and wrench $82 would be a fantastic bargain if it included everything shown in the link.

I did this in my 2017 wagon. We drive long distances around the western US, and often enough outside of cell phone coverage, let alone MB service areas. I traded the silly 3rd row seat and some cargo space for a full-size spare. BTW, the wood panel now has black carpet.

It is such a crying shame that we must resort to these improvised fixes.

i used to do that with my Lexus Sc 430. I replaced the RFT with Michelin Sport A/S and carried a mini spare in the back on long trips.

For 18" space saver, you will need T135/80R18, $114 at TireRack. It will allow for a temporary space saver in case of emergency, while preserving still usable trunk space. I chose with full size 18" spare with full size tire from TireRack and it did cut trunk space significantly, but still manageable.

Edit: Exactly the wheel Marc Kaplan posted above (do not forget to change the tire).
Well, I found a salvage yard that has a 2016 E400 with 18" staggered tires. The guy said the compact spare that came with the car has 17" rim. The bolt pattern on the 2016 E400 4Matic is the same 5x112 as on my 2017 E300 4Matic.
In your opinion, will this work for me? If I put 135/80R17 on a 17" rim the differential is about 4% as shown here:https://www.miata.net/cgi-bin/tirescgi

Thanks is advance.

1. I do not have E300 so do not know if 17" donut will fit E300. However, I know that 17" donut won't fit my W213 E450's front calipers since they are basically the same as W212 E550's (hence need 18" donut).
2. I do not know if W212 E400's front brakes are identical to W212 E550's, but if they are, I do not see how can 17" fit front massive calipers.
3. I think W213 E300 has smaller brakes than E400/450 and are similar/same as W212 E350 (not sure about E400) were and if so then 17" is OK, but if your car's front brakes are identical to W213 E400/E450 (which I do not believe to be), then 17" won't fit.
4. Finally, once you're sure that 17" donut does fit E300, you will need 135/90-17 tire (not 135/80-17).

Thanks for all this. Just got off the phone with the guy. He has a 2016 E400 W212, non sport suspension sedan. He researched the calipers and said that the calipers on this car are the same size as my 2017 E300 W213. The OEM compact spare for this one is 135/80R17. The OEM tires for the E400 are 18".
If the calipers are the same size and the bolt patterns are both 5x112 wouldn't it fit?
He also has a 2013 E350 4Matic with a regular 18" rim with a spare of 155/70R17. I have to check if the calipers are bigger but not sure of the mentioned models and years above to look at. No mention of an E350, only E400/550, CLS 440/550, 2012-2016 and 2012-2018. He is doing some further checking and will get back tomorrow.
Any thoughts?
Thanks again

Mine is a 17" spare and I'm running 19" wheels on my '17. My tire guy has cfmd this is the proper fitment.

Interesting. The guy at the salvage has that 2016 E400 W212 with the 18" OEM tires. The spare is 135/80R17. My question would be the rotors and calipers fitting. There is mention of 14.2" for rotors. Again, I have the 2017 E300 4Matic. Did you have to get a new spare tire for your E? So, the 17" spare fit over the calipers and rotors with no problem? If so, that bodes well for this purchase.
Thoughts?
Thanks again

People should not confuse what wheels are on their car as standard or optional (one can run 21" on W213 E300/400/450/etc., if one wants to). It has nothing to do with the question posted - will 17" donut fit? - so as stated above 17" donut will not fit W213 E400/E450/and "higher", but will fit E300 if E300 has smaller front brakes (rotors and calipers) than E400/E450. W213 E400/E450 have 14.2 front rotors with massive calipers (about the same as E550s and CLS550 had).

To my knowledge, and I did not dive into it, both W213 E300 and W212 E350/E400 use(ed) 12.7" front rotors. If this info is correct for E300, then 17" donut from W212 E350/E400 will fit. However, the tire diameter (especially for 4matic) should be about 26.5". So the tire on 17" donut for W213 should be 135/90-17 or 155/80-17 (the narrower the tire, the less space it will take in the trunk).

Just to clarify a bit. The front rotors on the W212 2016 E400 are 14.2. The front rotors on my W213 2017 E300 4Matic are 13.5. Not sure about the calipers but the guy from the salvage said that both the E400 and my E300 had the same size front calipers. How did you calculate the 26.5 inches diameter and the spare tire required sizes?
Thanks again

W213 stock tires are 225/55-17 for lux, 245/45-18, or 245/40-19, or 245/35-20. All are about 26.7" diameter. There is no 17" spare made in exactly 26.7" diameter, so the closest made is 26.5". I suppose 25.5" diameter from W212 can be used for a very short time, otherwise you'll ruin your 4matic, however I would not run 1 out of 4 tires on 4matic with 1" different diameter than the other 3 even for a mile (fixing transmission is a hell lot more expensive than one donut spare tire in the correct diameter).

I am going to hazard a guess here that the current Run Flats (mine are Continental ProContacts) are running at a measurably lesser (effective) diameter while 'running flat'. I'm hoping that during that capability of 50 miles to limp to a repair, they will keep the wheel off of the pavement but it will surely be running at a lower profile than when properly inflated. This goes for the 4matic vehicles and all others without the spare. I hate to think the transmission will be damaged by the conditions mandated by MB deleting spare tires in favor of corporate CAFE.

Well, the original ordered part from Germany came to the house today. OEM part 213-400-06-00 compact spare 135/70R19 rim and tire. Difference in diameter is very little. 26.68" for my car and 26.44 for the spare. The parts guy who order the part for me said it should be just fine.
Problem: He said I'd need "short" lug nuts. I have a call into him for a part number. Any suggestions for my 2017 E300 4Matic? Thanks is advance.

You're all over the board. Somehow questions regarding 17" spare from W212 turned into already ordered and received 19" W213 OEM spare. It sounds like you've already found the source to get correct info from. Not sure why you keep on asking here.

Overall diameter is nearly identical. The OEM came in. Did not expect it at all as the wheel and tire are not available in the US. Now looking for advice on lug bolts for the spare.

Here is the list of MB Part Numbers:
Compact spare: 213-400-06-00
Jack: 164-580-02-18
Ratcheting jack handle: 414-581-00-49
Lug wrench: 221-581-00-01
Container TireFit: 000-583-31-100

The jack parts can be generic from a local source.
Any idea on part number for short lug bolts for the spare above. Just got it from Germany but need the short bolt for 2017 E300 4Matic. Thanks

Unfortunately, that part number is only for the yellow label, not the bolt. Cost$1.41
