Hello again. Planning to have a front and rear dash cam added to our W213 (2018 E class). The car has a "neat feature". Press a button and the rear sunshade moves up into place. Clever. However, I notice that there is only about one inch of space at the top, when the sunshade is up, between the sunshade and the back window. Has anyone added a "dash cam" with a rear camera, and if so, does it fit without interference with the clever sunshade? The camera system I am looking at is a Blackview DR750S-2CH. Thanks in advance.
I doubt if the shade will clear the camera. Their product spec does not list the unit's depth, only height and width. If the unit is mounted at the top of the window you can raise the shade partially to allow for clearance.
I have that exact dash cam...although no sun shades. I'm guessing the sun shade will interfere... I had the sunshades on my previous C Class and never used them...I guess it may come in handy if you have folks sitting in the back who are complaining of too much sun. But if you intend on having the windows tinted it may be a feature that you never use...in any case good luck. FYI consider also getting the cellink external battery for your dash cam...it keeps the unit powered while the car is parked.
on a different note: you might want to look at the thinkware dual cam.
i used to have BV but switched to thinkware as much better quality.

I have a 2017 W213 and am using the same BlackVue forward and rear camera successfully. The rear camera is mounted right up against the upper rear window frame (I mean RIGHT UP AGAINST IT). Not even a hair's width between the camera and frame. I used 3M clear double sided mounting tape. The window shade raises up and JUST brushes the camera, but not hard enough to cause the window shade to automatically reverses, and not hard enough to push the camera off it's mounting tape. I've been using this setup for a year and not even the harsh Florida sun has caused the mounting tape to loosen.
I had a car stereo installation place (those still exist but they don't really install call stereos anymore. This one specializes in installations of lights/radios etc for FHP here in central Florida). Took them the whole day to run the power cables for front and rear cameras, although every time an FHP car came in with some problem they stopped working on mine to work on the trooper's car. Side note, You'd be amazed at the electronics they cram into the trunk of one of those cars.
Anyway... the camera will fit, and provides a great rear view. I'm happy with the Blackvue product.
As many above have said, but the tolerances between the rear headliner and the sunshade are tight, a good installer will do what I did and bend a 1”x2” piece of thin plastic and it will sit inside the headliner. Then bend it back towards the front and up to the headliner. Now you have a hard place to put the camera. I’d post a pic but my car is in for its seasonal tire change today...

Would like to see some pics. The BlackVue worked great on our S-class but the Thinkware 800 Pro rear cam did not clear the top of screen and I had to move it downwards a bit.
Hi Bobby 4919.....with the rear camera right at the top, is there still room for the camera lens to get a full picture?. What about the black area on the glass around the top....any problem with that?
but the picture is great during the day, and just a little bit 'underexposed' at night. Here's a screenshot from the BlackVue iPhone app. By the way, my camera is a DRS650. I think the OP was referencing a DRS750 but from what I can tell the only differences are internal. Nothing changed with the external size.
Thanks for the pics. My issue is that we have the screen up all the time (my preference). The choices I am seeing here is either limited vision on closed screen or gap on screen up.
The Thinkware camera is a bit smaller than the Blackvue but the mount is larger, so we ended up with a somewhat ugly mount spot but it actually isn't noticeable when driving or looking at the car. No gap to top of screen. Our S-Class had zero issues with fit unlike the E
No problems with getting a full frame. The black banding around the window doesn't show up. I DO have window tinting on the back window but the picture is great during the day, and just a little bit 'underexposed' at night. The Blackvue 750 should help quite a bit for rear recording. We had 4 dual channel Blackvue cams and still have a 650 in the SL. Rear recording quality sucks and night time recording is more or less worthless, even without tint. The 750 is likely similar to the Thinkware. Better sensor and 1080. Our 800 Pro rear is identical in quality to the 650 front cam, but better at night.
Hi Orenlasko....The pictures that you sent-----does your car have the rear shade?.....and is it an E300 (W213). If it has the rear shade, does the shade come up all the way? Thanks!
Wow.... both my 2014 E350 and 2017 E300 have gaps. The screen never went all the way up. I always thought it was kind of sloppy for MB to leave about an inch gap at the top of the screen.

Thinkware is the superior camera in every way... except design maybe
It's definitely a better camera IMO. It was a bit more pricey as the 750 but I like the smaller design that fits nicely into the infra-red cutout of the windshield for GPS. Just the rear camera location is less than ideal but still acceptable to me. Two more pics...
Camera or not the E300 always has a gap when the screen is up. Maybe it's a sell-up point to get you from an E to an S.
Just for comparison, here is the W222 S550 I think the bar on top of the screen was shaped a bit different as the S-Class has the 3rd tail light on the top of the window. not the bottom...
i know what you mean; I've got TWO DUAL dashcams in my car. the rear cams are installed as side cams, thus creating an almost 360° view
Ive often thought of this. Where do you mount the smaller cams to view the sides of your car? Do you have them face inside left and right or do they point right outside?
