2019 E350 vs E450

I'm looking to order a 2019. I was never interested in the E300 because of a possible lack of power. I only wanted the E400.

However, the introduction of the E350 may change my thought process. The new E350 engine looks pretty impressive, and now I'm unsure if I really need or want the E450. E350 0-60 is pretty close to the E450, plus the new 4 cyl. engine with EQ boost seems like newer technology. Do I really want the older V-6 engine? EQ boost seems to have some cool features. E350 does have a significantly smaller gas tank, but the gas mileage I'm sure is quite a bit better.

Now if the new I6 engine were available on the E450, then I probably would get that. But it's not and I need a car this fall.

Any thoughts?

The CLS53 and E53 will have EQ Boost. EQ Boost has not been announced for the E350 or E450.

I believe it has been announced, but only for E350 (not E450). According to the order guide:

E350 4Matic
-2.0L inline-4 turbo engine with EQ Boost
-295 hp, 295 torque
-EQ Boost outputs 13 hp and up to 111 lb-ft
-5.6 sec 0-60

E450 4Matic
-3.0L V6 biturbo engine
-362 hp, 369 torque
-5.3 sec 0-60

Do you have a link to the MY2019 E Class Dealer Ordering Guide? I thought the non-AMG E Class cars with EQ Boost wouldn't be released in the US until MY2020.

I don't have a link, but the engine lineup is shown in the post "Discontinuing of E43 AMG?" on AMG W213 board.

Well, the E450 is still faster, has a larger gas tank, and the price difference when similarly equipped isn't likely to be much. I don't know much about EQ Boost, so I don't know if it changes the equation. Ignoring that, I would go with the E450. Beyond the performance, I like the fact that the V6 has been around for while. I don't like to be a guinea pig for new engine technologies.

EQ Boost will improve efficiency by 10-15 mpg in addition to raising the power output by about 100 hp.
I wouldn't buy one until it has been out for a year. Wait for the 2020 models.

I’ll be ordering the 450, which the dealers I have been talking to say is the only option (no 2018).
Slightly more hp and S class steering wheel are the only differences that I have heard about so far.

Any idea when they'll start building it? My dealer isn't sure, but thinks probably June. However, the order guide says that the E450 will be launched only in the fall, while the E350 will be launched in the summer.

My dealer also said June, maybe late August delivery if I order now. Arizona.
I really am in no hurry, which I think is good because of all the changes I expect quite a wait. Can’t even find much info online.

Yes, that is all I’ve found too, plus his website, which adds nothing re the 450.
MB sure keeps things under wraps for cars you can order right now.

There is lots of information on EQ Power at Mercedes-Benz.de. With an extension Microsoft Edge will automatically translate German to your chosen language.

Take MB.de with a grain of salt since it only applies to MB there. I would wait till it shows up on the USA website. For example I hate the fact that they have an E43 wagon there but don't export it here! Futhermore, the S class was supposed to debut with the inline six instead it came with the same ol' 3.0 twin turbo v6 as the E class (E 400), quite a downgrade since the base S class was a 4.7 twin turbo V8 with an additional 100hp!

The info about EQ Power technology applies to all EQ engines regardless of where they are sold.

The video claims the E450 will still have a V6 Biturbo (with EQ boost added) instead of the new inline-6 biturbo in the CLS... and in the video comments section the person who posted the video claims that's because the CLS has a longer engine bay. Since the inline-6 fits fine in the engine bay of the 2019 E53 AMG Coupe, not sure how much we can take this video at face value.

The EQ Boost is in the E350, but not the E450 based on the order guide.

I don't think you can order these cars right now - dealers don't seem to have build slots for them yet.

I believe they start taking 2019 orders from tomorrow.
My dealer is putting one tonight.

I also have the D.O.G for the E450 coupe if someone is interested.

Here it is. The D.O.G.
He said it will be about $800 more. Not sure though.

Don't worry about E350 anymore... because MBUSA already killed it... There is more chaos in MB USA than anytime in it's history, so someone decided to just stay with E300 unchanged. Read this: Important Update on 2019 E300
