How to Disable Gracenote?
I have a thread under the Audio Section trying to figure out how to restore normal track order when an album or artist is selected from my SD card. I won't go into that here.
It seems Gracenote may have a role in this foolishness. In a previous version of COMAND_NTG45 the manual has a section describing how Gracenote could be deselected. There does not appear to be a way to do that in this version of COMAND.
Can Gracenote be disabled in Engineering Mode?

engineering mode needs to be activated by the dealer, and seems they usually don't want to do that...
so personally don't know if grace can be deactivated.
what's the problem with your tracklist? - I play from an usb stick and have no problems playing in the right order.
(though I think gracenote does not work here in france..)

If I select an album via "Artist" which has 13 tracks the track order is: 01, 10, 11, 12, 13, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. It seems to be reading the alphanumeric priority of the track rather than the actual track number. If I select the same album through folders it plays in the correct track order 01, 2, 3, 4, etc. When you search for an artist by voice it also plays the tracks in a messed up order. This is using an SD card.
I can edit the metadata so the track numbers are different, but it still plays the tracks in the same track order: 01, 10, 11, etc. So it seems there is something overwriting the metadata in the music files. I don't know if this is coming from Gracenote or if it's a register written from the original album that doesn't get overwritten when I've modified the track numbers.
I'm desperate, and a bit obsessive, but not nuts enough to keep jousting at this endlessly if I don't know what I'm fighting.

if your music is in iTunes you can use this software to sync music to your sd card.
I use it and albums are being played in the right order:

My music isn't in iTunes. I've used JRiver which is sort of a gold standard for music file management. But honestly, I just don't know what the crux of the problem is. I've been using Daft Punk's "Random Access Memories" as my test album (no good reason for that other than that's the album I first recognized there was this problem).
Today I erased and reformatted my SD card.
I used JRiver to rename each song's file name from the structure "01 Give Life Back to Music" to "Give Live Back to Music" (deleted the preceding track number).
After I did this the tracks were listed by alphabetical order. The first song is now "Beyond". That was previously the LAST track since it was "09 Beyond" and came after 01, 10, 11, 12, 13, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 8 which were the track numbers before song titles.
This is totally nuts. There is no reason in the world music should come in alphabetical order rather than the track number the musicians decided were best.
I'm curious how this is working for you in France. Do you have an example of an album with more than 10 songs where the tracks are properly ordered? How are the file names listed in the folder on your SD card?

All my music is in iTunes and this stored under my music folder in windows.
i'll take the best ever rock album as example: Exile on main street by the rolling stones, a double album with 18 songs:
On my computer it's in user/music/iTunes/iTunes music/the rolling stones/exile on main street - then see attached picture to see how the songs present themselves
I used to just drag the whole music folder to my usb stick and playback in the car work just fine.
But I now use doubletwist because this software also copies my itunes playlists:
once it has copied the music to the usb stick; the album is under;
music/the rolling stones/exile on main street - then as per attached picture (so same structure as on the pc)
maybe 1 important thing to note: within iTunes each songs is numbered as: disc 1 of 1 and then song 1 of 18, 2 of 18 etc...
and you are sure you don't have "random" on right? - (it should always go back to non random anyway when selecting a new folder or album)

Thank you Egonvdv. So what would happen if you used the voice command "Play Exile on Main Street"? What would the the play order of the first three songs? This is where I'm having the problem.
If I play the album via "Folders" the songs play in the correct order of the tracks. If I play the album selected by "Artist" I get the first song, then the tenth song, eleventh song and eventually the second song. If I took out the leading track numbers in the file names, such that the preceding tracks weren't present, the songs seem to play in alphabetical order.
Yes, I don't have random play selected. As I said it plays normally if I select things by folder, but not by artist or album. And it seems voice command uses the artist or album track order when that is used.

One other thing. When your media system is booting up do you get the "Powered by Gracenote" statement with the Gracenote logo?
I have written to MB to inquire how Gracenote may be turned off. That was a feature of previous versions of COMAND.

no matter how I access the album (or any other album) it always plays in the right order.
I can think of no logic explanation why your album plays how it should if you select the folder,
but not when you select it via artist.... I doubt gracenote comes into play here...?
I forgot to check if I actually have gracenote, will dig into it tomorrow as my car's too far away now
(when I google I get nothing on it for the french market)

That is very helpful to know. I did re-tag and rename my test album using [disc #][track #] [File] as the new filename. I was a little bit encouraged that it loaded in the right order when I turned the car on, but when I re-selected the album via "Album" i got the old, incorrect track order.
Not ready to give up yet and I haven't heard from MB yet.

Downloaded Exile on Main Street from iTunes (that's good, anyway)
Transferred album to my SD card with DoubleTwist (nice program)
Selected Exile on Main Street by Artist
Play order: Rocks Off (01), Happy (10), Turd on the Run (11)
Works in France. Doesn't work in USA
SAD

crazy.. but last you got exile now, so some good came out of it!
what if you drag the album directly to the SD card?
and how does the album (titles) present itself on your Pc ?
EDIT; nope no gracenote as it turns out
EDIT AGAIN: gracenote logo pops up when I stream from my phone via bluetooth

Hi Again Egondv
I haven't given up on this. I have a favor to ask. If you are playing music in your car on any album, and go up to Artists, Rolling Stones and select Exile on Main Street what is the second song you hear?
Is it 'Rip This Joint' or 'Happy'? For this experiment, it's important to get out of the first song playing when you start the car and back out to the 'Artist' or 'Album' music selection level.
Also, what is your file type here? It says .m4A. Was it a download from iTunes or is it an ALAC file?
nycebo has been helping me get music to play in the right order. It works fine with .mp3 files now. But if you try to use FLAC or .m4A (ALAC) files it plays the songs out of order when selected by Artist or Album. We are trying to figure out the logic behind this.
Thank you!

so u want me to
listen to any music from my usb,
then go to artist/stones/exile, and play 1st song.
then go to next song/
and Q is, which song that is ?
will also check file type, but these are ripped CD's by iTunes so pretty sure it's AAC

Files AAC & 2nd song Rip this joint.
I guess you checked this already but... could it be the songs are not numbered correctly?
like: disc 1 of 1 and then: song 1 of 12, 2 of 12....?

It is helpful because whatever you are doing the MB COMAND system is in sync with your files. It is reading them correctly and it shows this can work. It's disappointing only because I cannot figure out what the difference is. If it's okay with you I'm going to take this offline and PM you for more details.
Thank you very much,
Scott

That's really, really helpful. And sort of disappointing.

What worked there does not seem to work for m4A, FLAC, and ALAC files which have different containers. While it might be numbering, I don't know exactly what other variables are involved.
