Electrical Gremlins

Less than 1k miles on my E400 and I am getting an error message that the blind spot assist is inoperative. Along with this I have had several strange electrical gremlins so far. When washing the car, the radio came on for a bit. The radio would show a different station on the center display then what was shown on the gauge display while having no sound. Had to do a reset on the command system to get thing working again. Seat belt extenders would not extend and I had to press the button to get them to come out last week. And for the life of me, can't get NFC to pair with my phone.

Anyone else having occasional issues?

What kind of phone do you have? A number of iPhones will not charge properly with NFC.

NFC is not used for charging. The charging is via a Qi charging pad on the bottom of the front console. NFC is in the lid of that same console. In the US E Class NFC is useless. In other markets NFC allows a device to be used as a digital vehicle key.

You're right. I should have said that Apple's limited implementation of NFC in their phone causes the Apple Pay error when it encounters some particular signals. I don't understand the electronics of this gremlin, but it appears that when the iPhone is placed on some Qi chargers (at least the one in MB) there is some communication that pops up the Apple Pay logo. So there is an interaction with Apple's NFC chip, which apparently is difficult to overcome.
My point is that its a known problem with some Apple iPhones and the problem is the NFC implementation in them.

The interaction is with the vehicle NFC which is just above the Qi charger and the Apple device. I simply turned off NFC in my phone. Problem solved.

You can also turn off NFC within the command menus. Then Apple Pay won’t show up and charging still works.

Google Pixel/Pixel 2 do not support QI wireless charging (I have one too, wish they did!). NFC is not relevant here to my knowledge. Bluetooth connectivity should work fine for other functions.

estark - can you post instructions on how to do this within command menus. I've been searching and can't figure it out. Really tired of having my iPhone go to Apple Pay every time it gets anywhere near the NFC area. Thanks!

Not worried about the charging as you are correct, device does not support it. The device does support NFC so that the car can connect and recognize the phone. When I try to connect with NFC, the car's browser connect to the Google Play store to the Android Auto landing page.

That isn't NFC connecting, it is Bluetooth.

Here is are the steps to turn off NFC. System, Connectivity, uncheck NFC surface Active. Your iPhone will no longer go into Apple Pay when near the cup holders.
