yeah that’s mostly because of the Electrical system and how it’s wired and until the GLC facelift is similar to the C class next year the 2019 GLC doesn’t have the new system.

My ship arrives in Long Beach on Monday with my E Coupe.. but I’m sure I’ll be waiting some weeks to take delivery... for now I’m patient but around Labor Day I just might go to the VPC center and kidnap it myself. lol

How exciting to know your Coupe will be on US soil Monday. And then how disappointing to know it will likely sit there until the Mercedes Lords wave their magic release wand. I'll be looking for pics when you get it for sure!

EXACTLY! In the past car orders have been P1 Priority so from the day the ship came I had the car 2 days later. It was pretty fast.. but I’m not going to think about it too much.. if their sales are low and the system was glitched for a week or so.. in reality that only puts MB behind a few weeks.. so a late August-mid Sept release is still possible. I think they don’t want to commit to an early date and disappoint people when it’s not ready.

It's odd this year. The sales manager at my dealer said he has over 100 cars just sitting at the VPC in Jacksonville, FL. He says they're not releasing the 2019's till Ocotber 1st. I hope for your sake, he's wrong.

Yeah it’s very odd But I talked to my guy yesterday and he said it will be a little delay but he doesn’t think it will be in Oct... he feels end of August to mid Sept... he said when they send out a email it will be in the spur of the moment cuz the top guys at MBUSA will send out email and that’s when all VPC cars will be released. There are multiple shipments coming in weekly at all the different VPC centers to fill all the dealers in the US... just like you said your dealer has 100 cars.. but other dealers have a good amount too.. the VPC can only hold so many cars for a huge region.. at some point they will be forced to move them to the dealers.

I hope your guy is right and you get the keys to that new coupe sooner than later.

I hope he is right but how would he possibly know the cars will be released next week? Virtually everyone here who has had custom cars ordered and held at port for the model year release has said MBUSA doesn’t give any advanced notice. The dealer finds out when they look in NetStar and it all of a sudden says the car will be there in x number of days.

My salesman has told me this multiple times and has never once made any kind of promise on a delivery date, short of “you’re the first one I’ll call when I get a delivery notice”

You'll have to come back and let us know if that actually happens. When I took delivery of the new E400 Saturday, the sales manager still said no
2019's will be delivered in August.

While I certainly hope the best for Walter, I suspect August 14th will come with some disappointment.

If all that delay is true, Mercedes' sales press releases are going to bleed red for the next 2 months. I can't believe they'd wait until Oct to release the 2019s when their sales are tanking. Really smart.

Jaguar is already delivering 2019 cars and they're build tool on their website has already changed over to 2019 as well. I could see a delay with the E450 since it's a new'ish engine (though it's just a retuned E400 enginer with more ponies), but the E300 is virtually unchanged from 2018, so why it would be held up makes sense I suppose only to Mercedes management.

They couldn't get the digital instrument dash, so I couldn't get the P3 option package with all the driver assist goodies. Dealer said let's change it to the 2019 E450 (that engine and the new steering wheel!), I'd just have to wait longer to get what I want. My order says "Decade planned: 18/07-2" and "Est. Prod. Date: 2018/08/3D", so it looks like it will be produced the third week in August...less than 1 month to go! Of course who knows when the 2019s will be released and shipped. I'm hoping for an October delivery.
I ordered:
Lunatic Blue Metallic (sorry, I mean Lunar)
Macchiato Beige/Yacht Blue leather
Light brown Sen Wood dash/console
Premium Package, Exterior Light Package, AMG Line Package, Energizing Comfort Package, Parking Assistance Package, Driver Assistance Package, Chrome door handles, LED logo projector, Multicontour Front seats w/massage, Heated and Ventilated Front seats, Heads-Up display, 12.3" Digital instrument cluster, Power rear window sunshade, Burmester Surround Sound (the $550 model), Soft-Close doors, 19' AMG Twin 5-spoke wheels with high-perf summer tires.

I live in the hottest spot in Arizona, so some of those options reflect that. I wanted the upgraded sound deadening package, but that is only available in the 4 door, not the coupe. Now it's a waiting game Rbrylaw, but mine has been going on since January! My wife says I'm crazy, delayed gratification taken to extremes! But I want what I wants, especially if I'm looking at a car with MSRP of $76,580.
Steve
I just called my dealer to check on the status of my order for my E450 which was scheduled to build the third decade in August (8/21-8/30). He told me he'd call back after he checked in the computer system (NetStar?). He said their entire computer system was down last week and it's been miserable. He just called back and said they built it a week early, my car is sitting on a lot in Germany, waiting for a boat. It's ALIVE!!!
He also said, as we've been discussing, they have very little inventory on site. I'm just hoping MB decides to release the 2019's earlier than October 1 so the dealers have something to sell...and I have something shiny to drive!

I love to know who screwed up at MB? Have they not known for a VERY long time that thrrr was an engine change that would need certification? They wait until NOW to try to get it? Why wasn’t the engine submitted MONTHS ago so they wouldn’t miss their dates?

Not sure anyone screwed up. Even when the GLC launched in the US with the very same engine as the C300, the GLC was held up for engine certification for a couple months. Our GLC sat at the VPC for like 2 months before it was released to our dealer.

Each engine and vehicle combination must be specifically certified. Changing a model even slightly can require a lengthy recertification process by either the EPA or the NHTSA. I can't think of the last time a car model did not change in some detail from year to year.

There shouldn't have been any delay really since the "450" version of this engine is already on the road in other Mercedes models in the U.S. We will never know what the hold up is so I'd say it isn't worth worrying about. One day you'll look up and dealers will have truckloads of 2019s on hand lol.

Why do you assume someone at MB screwed up? There isn't even an engine "change", it's a re certification really since the same V6 is already in the S450 and GLS 450. Cars get held every year from every maker all the the time, thing is for MB they had a series of issues last month that caused their sales to tank. I guess they thought they had enough inventory to put off releasing the 2019s later in the fall, but now they're caught out because of a supplier fire and their own ordering system went down for like 5 days. It literally was the perfect storm to kill sales. Wait until the August sales numbers comes out. If everything I'm getting is correct, MBUSA is about to take it on the chin in August with some of their lowest sales numbers in recent history.

AFAIK a different engine in the same physical vehicle requires a new round of NHTSA crash testing, a time consuming endeavor.

E400 to E450 is not a different engine. It is the same exact engine, just in a different state of tune, it's all software. There would be no need to crash test anything.

Where did you get this information from mick? Did you mean the S450?

The E450 will not have an I6.

Several posters after me will say the same thing....

E450 does not have the new inline engine. The AMG model (E53) dies but the E450 (sedan, Cab & Coupe) have last years engine tuned a little differently to get slightly more power)
