I think the red rear turn signal is still due to NHTSA's archaic regulations, which require each of the rear turn signal and brake lights to have a minimum area of 7¾ in2, but then allowing an intermittent red brake light to serve as a turn signal as a way of US-manufactured or US-sold cars not having to have very large taillights.
In the case of the E-class the thin amber turn signals are below the minimum size, so Mercedes just rejigged the larger-area brake lights and turned off the amber part completely.

These anachronistic regulations for head and taillights are infuriating, but like the decaying roads and bridges infrastructure of the country, no one cares enough to improve them.
A very informative and interesting article on amber and red lights, including the findings by NHTSA itself(!) that amber lights are safer, along with lack of any evidence that the minimum turn signal area requirement makes cars safer, is found here: https://www.acarplace.com/2018/01/index/

Guys, @vladimir.cdi is a standup guy and the real deal. I have used him to code a couple of things on my W212.

Is there any chance this will work on a MY2016 W212 with 640?

There are no amber LEDs in the turn signal slots in the W212 cars. I think this is true for the W213 as well, so it is not a matter of coding.

Videos are really hard to get without professional equipment, but I have a US W212 and Vladimir activated it on my car and it works exactly as described in all Benz official videos.

here is a crappy photo of my W212 shading out the car in front:

Here is a video of how my car behaves now when I turn on the rear fog lamp (though this is not my car):

I was his guinea pig for W212 models and even so I did not encounter a single hiccup.

Do it, you will love it.

Yes - it works exactly like MB videos showing individual LED dimming to shape high beams for oncoming cars and vehicles ahead. Installation was simple, and AFAK Vladimir has sold multiple installations for US and Canadian W213 (S213) owners, including several members of this group. The $499 price is steep, but how much would MB charge you if they ever supported this recoding, which is highly unlikely. I'm very glad I got this.

Received and installed Vladimirs' codes yesterday on my 2019 E450 4matic. Worked exactly as everyone has described. Tested it last night and it worked as it should. Now I can finally make use of the additional expense of the adaptive headlight system.

Thank you Vladimir, and thank you wagonsrock for your additional installation description you posted earlier. Installation was a breeze!

Not to bump an old thread, but I just installed this mod on my w205.

It works....it took a month for the module to make its way to me, but install went smoothly and everything works as promised, allowing the Multibeams to run on the Rest of World settings is a game changer......

(rant about US DOT and Sealed Beams)

Totally worth it and a mod that will add to your safety every night. Seller is responsive to inquiry.

That's great you got it to work, but isn't a W205 very different than a W213? Even a year can make a big difference.

I ordered the module and updated mine this weekend. Works perfectly! Unfortunately it doesn't get dark here until 10:30PM... so I had to stay up to try them. Looking forward to winter driving now! (and being dark at 5PM)

Updated mine too a few weeks ago. Easy install. Same issue with darkness - might have to wait till fall to use it.
