Tire Bulge only 4k miles on car and they are Run Flats???

I got a bulge on the sidewall of the tire. How is this possible on a Run Flat? Dont Run flats have thick side walls to drive while they are flat.......?? Service is closed today and I will call Monday to see how much it will cost. I never hit any potholes or know how this happened. I am hoping they comp me a tire since I have no idea how this happened. It not a big bulge but when you tap the spot with your knuckle its echo's and when on the non-bulge part its solid sounding, I am certain the side wall is compromised and needs replacing.

Your tire is compromised and a blowout is a distinct possibility. I would recommend that you limit your driving until you can get it replaced. Run flat tires are definitely not immune to getting bubbles in the sidewall. The bubble most likely indicates that the tire's inner liner has been damaged. A manufacturer's defect is a remote possibility, but it is much more likely that some kind of impact was involved (even if nothing was felt by the driver). See this Tire Rack article from 2013 for more information: What Does a Bubble in the Sidewall Mean?
You will find lots of other articles on the web about this issue if you do a search.

The last thing i want is a blowout, its not worth putting off $300 and risk putting yourself in danger.

Monday I'm calling the dealer to see how much they want.

I called my local Just Tires today, these Good Year All Season tires are discontinued so they found a very close match Good Year for $330 not sure if its mounted and balanced.

Oh what fun it is to have $300+ tires....

Check with a Goodyear dealer. I believe you're covered for the first 2/32's of treadwear or 12 months and you get a free tire replacement if it's covered under warranty. I think Pirelli has a better road hazard warranty on run flats.

This happened to my E400 with less than 3000 miles on the car. My dealer replaced the tire under goodwill even though they didn’t have to. Sidewall bubble is not part of the warranty. My car has Pirelli tires.

This thread is why for the last 3 Mercedes I've owned with RFT, I don't leave the dealership on delivery day without the wheel and tire insurance. I know many will say it's instant profit to the dealer, but given my personal experience it has saved me a lot of money over the course of ownership.

Depends on the tire brand. If you read the Goodyear warranty, you also get it with the new car but the date starts when the car was manufactured. Most new car manufacturers usually exclude the tires from their bumper to bumper warranty, but will push it off to whoever made the tire.

Update here. I emailed Goodyear and explained I have no idea how the bulge happened. They were very nice and said to have it inspected first. I talked to my local tire shop who is a distributor of Goodyear tires, he said very clearly “99.9% of the time bulges are a result of impact to the tires by the driver.”

I do drive on some bad roads time to time, but geez to have a tire fail because of that? I’m maybe not used to driving on low er profile, bigger wheels on a more sporty car.

I think its me not being used to this type of wheel/tire.

Oh oh well what can you do...

That's why I hate, hate, hate rf tires. I had a Cadillac ATS and every one of them developed bulges. Plus they were the noisiest tires and roughest riding I ever had. When I get my new 2019 E450 Cabriolet, I already have regular tires budgeted for them.
