I do not believe the Acoustic Comfort Pkg. was a special order item. Special Order items are designated by “SPC” at the end of the option description. On my wagon, the only SPC option was the Heated Rear Seats.

I don’t have the 2019 DOG for the wagon, but here is a page from the 2019 E Class Sedan DOG and it shows the same thing.

No one wants to listen. I keep saying that the Acoustic Comfort Package was a Special Order Item for 2020. It was one of the changes for 2020. I KNOW it wasn't special order for 2019 and prior. I guess I have to prove it:

OK, sorry, didn’t mean to ruffle any feathers here. We now know that is was not a Special Order item in 2019, but became a Special Order item in 2020. Glad we got that settled.

i always get tainted windows on my car at 500 eruo, but never realised this is included in the acoustic package

this means i'd only pay 600 euros on top of the tainted windows, which seems an ok deal to me.

i hate noises in the car, so if this really work, then will definitely get it next year on my new car!

Not really. The windows are double with a infra-red resistant membrane, and do reduce heat and sound, but they do not look tinted (darker).

I assume you live in Europe because here in the USA MB offers the acoustic package but the windows don’t come tinted. I have the option in my 2019 E300 and it really isn’t worth the extra $1,100. If you like your Windows dark here you just take it to an after market shop and they’ll tint your windows for $300.

@rraisley this is strange because you can not have tainted windows and the acoustic options, hence why i thought it was part of it...

EDIT: double checked and you are correct, tainted windows not included and the two can not be combined

@1guitar you don't hear/feel a difference between acoustic & non acoustic ?

2017 E400 Wagon
We moved up from a 2014 E350 Wagon to a 2017 E400 and were soon aware of the new car appearing to be louder around the windows. I found the equipment sheet didn’t include the acoustic package. I don’t believe it was an option on our 2014. That disappointingly suggests to me that our newer car wasn’t built to the standards of our older model and requires the optional package to meet the equivalent level. Sad.

This was my feeling as well. I've got a 2020 e63s, my first Mercedes. It's louder than I expected (both road- and wind-noise). I assumed a $130,000 wagon would feel like a vault inside.

That you have to pay an extra $$ to get a quieter interior is a bit disappointing to me.

Don't get me wrong, I love the car, but I just think that a quiet interior should be part-and-parcel of a luxury automobile.

You bought an E 63 and expected it to quiet

Well, I guess with the E63s models, they would argue that they were trying to keep the weight down. Was the Acoustic Comfort Pkg. available on the E63s?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for hearing the exhaust and what not. But I don't see why having a fast wagon means you want to hear wind-noise and tire buzz. Those don't enhance the experience at all.

And yes, insulating so that exhaust and engine is plainly audible while tire and windnoise are minimized is eminently do-able. My Audi RS7 manages that quite well.

Yes. Our E450 Luxury Trim wagon, with Acoustic Comfort Pkg. Is near silent at highway speeds, with the exception of a bit of exhaust roar. I’ve been thinking of seeing if I can have that remedied, as I don’t care for it. However, it’s my wife’s car, so I rarely drive it and she doesn’t even hear it.

You’re probably hearing the sound over the speaker. Acoustic Comfort adds that feature so you can hear the engine. Don’t think it can be disabled.

Actually, I looked into this when we first got the wagon and all I could find is that there was no piped in exhaust note. Please post your source for this info. Thanks.

^ I am curious as well. Makes no sense that they would add a noise maker to a package designed to reduce noise.

I get that the 4-cylinder models would have sound pumped in to mask the 4-cylinder sound, and that the AMG models would have sound pumped in for a more 'sporty' ambience.

For the 6-cylinder non-AMG models, it would be telling if there are any 'engine' sound changes in sport and/or sport+ modes, since I do not believe they have exhaust valves.

Count me in, curious as well.

As for the non amg branded 4 cylinder vehicles, the pump in audio makes sense for the reasons as you stated. If you watch the W206 C300 autobahn run videos, the sound is clearly pumped in. It is not just 4-cylinder amg branded and non amg branded cars that gets pumped in audio, in fact my C43 has some sort of pumped in audio even though it has a V6. Matter of fact, there were discussion on the presence of pumped in audio for the W205 C63s with the V8 (facelift only though).

Speaking of V6. As for Streamliner hearing some sound from the engine, I think it makes sense as that engine is basically straight from the C43 pre-facelift as the M276 DELA 30, that engine naturally has a nice exhaust tone. The exhaust note from what I remembered from my test drive is very similar to my C43 when at high RPMs but unlike the C43, it is relatively quiet at low RPMs just as you would expect for an E-Class, the E450's exhaust even popped slightly in a very luxurious way when in sport+ mode. Couldn't tell if it was indeed pumped in as it sounded super natural to me and I put the windows down during the test drive (it sounded just like it was from the exhaust unless I remembered it incorrectly and they specifically raised the volume of the pumped in audio when the windows are opened)

Alan you are correct, there are no valves on non amg branded vehicles. Even on amg branded vehicles, the valves are an option bundled in the driver's package.

Never had a chance to test drive the facelift E450 with the inline 6 yet though but I wouldn't be surprised if it sounds nice too.

pull the data card for your vin and look for the b63 option. That’s the engine sound over speaker option that’s added to the acoustic comfort package. My guess for why the option is there is because the driving experience is off if you can’t hear the engine.

^ All of the 2020-2021 cars I checked on were too new to register in the decoder. Here is a 2019 E450 with option code PAF - Acoustic Comfort Package. It does not have B63, or anything else I can see that indicates ‘engine sound over speaker’:WDDZH6JBXKA511544

Contrary to my assumption, however, it is a 6-cylinder non-AMG and does appear to have a valved exhaust (code U16 - Exhaust System with Acoustic Flap). So any exhaust sound changes in Sport/Sport+ are not necessarily artificial, at least with the V6.

Edit: I also decoded some 2019 CLS450 VINs (earliest non-AMG M256 I-6 engined cars I was able to decode), and they all had B63 (and none had PAF). However, they all had a sport exhaust code as well. Perhaps they are set up differently from the W213.

And I checked some E63 VINs. None had B63, with or without PAF.

Interesting, if I am understanding this correctly (please correct me if I didn't) so you are saying the V6 and i6 non-amg branded vehicles have a valve flap but just no button to control it and instead it is controlled by the ECU? Interesting, didn't know that.

I was just trying to confirm a correlation between the Acoustic Comfort Package and artificial engine sound as alleged by rage2…I have a car ordered with PAF, and I do NOT want to inadvertently order fake vroom vroom…but among the V6 W213, V8 W213, and I6 C257 cars I checked, there was no correlation.

It does appear the V6 has the capability of real variable exhaust sound. I can only assume it varies with driving mode. I do not know what the sport exhaust code in the I6 C257 consists of, or if it comes on non-AMG W213 I6 models…I was unable to decode any.

I think you’re right on the V6 and I6. I made the assumption based on my friends e300 which does come with the noise over speakers. My bad.
