“Something went wrong” error

As of yesterday (Tuesday oct 30), I am all of a sudden getting a “Something Went Wrong” popup error on the COMAND screen every time I start the car.

As you can see, it says the message was sent from my phone. But, on my Watch and iPhone, it’s coming from the Mercedes Me app (which has been working perfectly).

Unfortunately, I’m not able to see one single change that could be the issue. However THREE things happened at almost the same time....

1. A CPU in my MY19 E450 Cab was “reprogrammed “ to solve an electrical fault light (red battery signal). Car went into the MB dealer shop last Friday and I got it back Monday evening. I do not recall any errors when I drove on monday

2. Tuesday, Apple released iOS 12.1. However I have been running developer betas of 12.1 for over a month with no issues whatsoever. Not impossible that something crept from the last beta to the release, but it’s unlikely.

3. Mercedes Me sent me an email saying they added a new “Speed alert” feature that can be accessed via the app. Of course I turned it on :-)

I have tried turning off the speed alert feature. Still errors. I’ve tried unpairing the phone and repairing it to the car. Still errors. In fact, if I connect via cable for CarPlay (even before starting the car), I still get the error.

Anyone having issues like this recently?

I just got my new car this afternoon. Very impressed with the car. But yes, I'm getting the same error code too and I was not originally, not until I started using the apple car play, then I started getting the error. I think there must be a bug in the system somewhere with something to do with the apple car play in these 2019's. I still have not messed around with it much as I have not had the time as I just got the car, but it seems like it coming up quite frequently like with yours. I'll see what happens tomorrow, I'm doing a 150 mile drive with the car. I'll be following this thread for any possible solutions and if there are no solutions I guess the car is gonna have to go into the dealer to get it checked out. I did have a lot of trouble today getting the M brace set up but finally got it. Warning to anyone setting it up is I believe it's after 3 tries if you enter in any wrong information you have to go back to the dealer with proof of idententity and let them set it up. Glad I did not get it to that point. Also it's different from the 2018's in that you need to go through ATT mobile website to activate any internet related functions.

I don’t think it’s just CarPlay. The error also happens when you’re just connected to Bluetooth, but did not happen when I unpairs the phone.

What version of iOS are you running?

ill try some other tests today....

1. Unpair the phone but use CarPlay
2. Delete Mercedes Me Connect from my phone
3. Try another phone from one of my kids that I’m sure they haven’t upgraded yet
4. Install iOS 12.1.1 Beta 1

I"m getting this as well and it's all tied to the new Mercedes Me Connect App. For me, the app won't finish setting up. It's been two days now and it's supposed to only take about 48 hours to finish setting up, but it just doesn't. I'd say the Mercedes Me Connect app and services weren't ready for prime time. MB makes fabulous cars. But their apps have always been sorely lacking and this new Connect App appears to be heading in the sorely lacking category.

The connect app has been working perfectly for me... up until Tuesday.

Interesting. For me it's thus far worthless and won't set up. Even after a 2nd visit to the dealer and multiple calls to the Connect Services peeps at MBUSA, it's DOA. It certainly could be iOS 12.1. If that's the case, it's Mercedes responsibility to ensure their app works with iOS.

That error looks like it is coming from an Internet connection DNS error, i.e., it can't reach a URL. It my be a bad DNS server IP address is configured or a bad URL.

Ok, so this is not an issue specific to E Class. It just started to happen this morning on my 19 C300!
I took delivery on Monday Oct 29, and on Oct 30 had MercedesMe Connect fully set-up and running.

I have iPhone XS, and am currently running iOS 12.1; was on iOS 12.0.1 at the time of original MercedesMe Connect set-up.
What I did this morning, though, was to access the MercedesMe Connect app on my phone. Then, I got a message that the terms/conditions have been updated and I had to re-opt in.
Then I pressed the remote start button. Then, the app gave me a message that I had to log in and then set a PIN (PIN was already set).
I logged in, but instead being prompted to set a PIN, I was just prompted to enter my PIN. After that, I had access to the app, and I again pressed the remote start button.

After a couple of seconds, I got a meaningless error message that I don't remember...and the app was showing that the car engine was off.
So I pressed the remote start button again, and then got an error message that the function was not successful because the car was already running.

I verified that the engine was indeed running despite that the app said that the engine was off.
After a few minutes, went out to my car and of course the engine shut off when I touched the door handle....then I got a notification on my phone that the engine was shut off, and also an email. Then, I got the first "Something went wrong" notification on my phone.

After I restarted my car from the inside, after COMAND was initialized I got the pop-up on my car screen to select from a driver profile, and THEN I got the now infamous "something went wrong" message on the car screen. And I got it again when I started the car again, and another notification on my phone.

So I have the curse now too, and I am sure it's something wrong with the app.

Ya I'd almost say for sure it's a bug in the new app. They will probably come out with a revision because it's sounds like everyone is affected who is using m brace with the new m Brace app. Originally I added my car to my mercedes me app. that I used for my 2018 and I did not get this bug but the app had very limited function with my 2019, still full function with my 2018 which I still have. For now I'm not gonna worry about it too much, all good things generally come in time, I'm just gonna enjoy this totally awesome car.

Nah. This is all tied to the new Mercedes Me "Connect" app. When the message pops up on my car, my phone and watch simultaneously display an issue with Mercedes Me Connect. Internet Service in my car is working just find, so it's not an IP address issue. You won't get this because your car can't have the newer Mercedes Me Connect app.

I think you are 100% correct.
I also just noticed when I went to my App Store, that the MercedesMe Connect (USA) app auto-updated on my phone to version 2.11.0 yesterday (Wednesday)...and after that update, the first time I use it, I start getting this error.

Pretty sure this app will get another update soon.
This bug is annoying but seems harmless.

I just had another conversation with the Mercedes Me Connect folks at MBUSA. Their system can't see my car, so my app can't connect. They have no clue why. They had me delete and redownload the app. Sign in, sign out. Nothing makes my car visible to the mother ship. When I called using the Me Connect button from the car, they weren't even aware I was calling from my car as my car just isn't recognized in their system. I seem to have purchased a Phantom E450. LOL They're opening a case with a higher level engineer. I don't care about an error message caused by the iOS 12.1 update. I do care if I can't ever get connected at all. Harumph.

Getting down to what’s causing this. I think it has something to do with the new features they added.

I went to the web version of Mercedes Me. There I had to opt in for speed alerts and home control. After I didn’t see any errors online,I logged out of MMe on my phone app then I logged back in. I then started the car and no error.

At least you can get into it. 3 days since taking delivery of my car and my car won't connect. Oh well, first world problems, I guess. LOL

IMO we are both correct. The app has a coding error in its networking procedures. This is typical for what I've seen in my 50 year's experience in computer networking.

That is somewhat comforting to know. It's truly odd in this day and age that when you log into a modern app, just introduced for the 2019 model year, it takes days for it to do anything. But then, this is after all, Mercedes Benz we're talking about. They've always marched to the beat of a different drummer.

You are probably more right than me. I couldn't program my way out of a wet paper bag. So that's why I've spent my entire career as an IT Recruiting and Account Manager! LOL And I'm good at it. I just don't have a real clue what my candidates actually do!

hell, the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet are still listed as MY18 E400 on the web site. You can download pdf manuals for all MY19’s EXCEPT E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet 🙄

So my fix of loggin out, going to the web version of Mercedes Me and allowing the new features to be used in the app, then logging back into the app has worked. Been driving and starring/stopping the car for a few hours running errands and no more errors.

So my 2 cents... it’s nit the app, it’s something the app is trying to ping in the server but until you go to the main MMe site and allow the new features to be used in the app, it hits a dead-end and barfs.

Well, if MBUSA ever gets me connected, so they actually can see my car from their servers, maybe I'll get to do what you suggest. I got an email from the Mercedes Me Connect rep who elevated my issue to a higher level tech saying they honestly don't know why my car won't connect. That's comforting - Not! Oh well, I love the car and if the worst nit I have is I can't access the Connect app, it's not really a big deal. But at some point they have to get me connected. Yes, they have to.

An update to Mercedes me arrived this morning. It is for Android V2.42 - #0536641. I have no problems with it.

I have not been in my car to try it there.

We don't have any issues with Mercedes Me in the E400. It's this Mercedes Me Connect that still isn't activated in my car and Mercedes Me in a 2019 doesn't do anything except take you to the Mercedes Me Connect app.
