Remote start question

When I use my phone to remote start my car, I can successfully start the car from my office. After a minute or so I leave work and walk to the car, it's running with the lights on. Problem is I can't seem to figure out how to get in without it shutting off the engine.
If I use the door handle to unlock the car and then open the door, the engine shuts off. If I unlock the car with the remote and open the door with the handle, the engine shuts off.

What am I doing wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong. This is expected behavior. It is also safer and less likely to lead to vehicle theft. With the ability of the engine to be frequently started and stopped, this shouldn't be an issue.

It’s a safety feature. Silly, but better safe than sorry.

So I believe but I’d rather have the remote start function!

Remote parking never works for me despite me having the option!

Also, does it not need you to be in the car, press the P button to then get out the car before remotely parking? My understanding was it doesn’t allow remote start of car without physically being in car beforehand?

No need to be in car for straight parking. You need to unlock from outside, start the parking app on your phone and keep your finger circling!

For parking into a bay, the car does have to be driven past first with the P button pressed to scan it. Then you can get out and let it drive in from you phone. Great if spot is a little tight.

Cheers, I’ll try it again!

Same here in the Middle East , I wish we have this feature...

I don't think I'll ever be able to upgrade or install sort of a kit for that, right?

I'll add this from the GLE thread. Kind of makes you wonder why it needs to turn off.

https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...-into-car.html

From GLE43__Sube"
That's precisely the reason MB went with this design. However, here's why it doesn't make sense. Just now, I decided to test something out. I left the Smart Key in the kitchen, out of range of the car. Then, I used Mercedes Me to unlock the doors. I got in and re-locked the doors, also using MM. I wanted to make sure the Smart Key was completely taken out of the equation. Next, I used MM to start the engine. At this point, the car had no idea I was sitting in the driver's seat. The engine started as usual. I then tried to shift into gear. I was not able to. The shift lever moved, but would not take the car out of Park. So, assuming you used MM to remote start the car and a thief broke the glass and climbed in, they wouldn't be able to drive off. If this is the case, then there's absolutely no reason for this idiotic design that shuts the engine off as soon as the door is opened.

With this crazy design as well as the overall unreliability many people are experiencing, does MB really expect people to pay for MM after the free period expires? Of course, this is a rhetorical question."

The MM free period is 5 years. Time to buy a new Mercedes and let the used car folks pay for a MM subscription.
