W214 Wishlist

What would you like to see in the next version of the E Klass? I am REALLY hoping for the 12.3 digital instrument cluster to become standard. It would also be great to have cruse control replaced with distronic, distronic standard. My last wish, I know it is a very long shot, is to make the heads up display standard. VW is launching their ID class with at least one heads up display standard and it sounds like it might be massive or even more than one.

As a side note, I CANNOT wait for MBUX in the E Klass. I know I can do almost all the voice functions of MBUX in my current W213.

Wireless Apple CarPlay would be my addition to your list.

My wish list for the next E includes a 100% electric version with a good range with quick charging so that I can drive from Pinellas County FL to Gainesville GA (outside of Atlanta) in an 8 hour day that I do routinely (530 miles). Even Tesla can't do that because of recharging time so it requires an overnight stay.

I hear you but it seems that present battery technology and weight considerations limit the maximum potential range to between 330 and 350 miles. That of course is assuming a constant driving speed of 55 MPH, temperature of 60 degrees and no rain. If temperatures drop and you use the heater/seat heater/heated steering wheel range drops dramatically: ditto if you use AC, increase your speed or use other electrical drawing options like the windshield wiper blades, headlights, etc.

The real problem as you correctly state is not the range but the charging time. Your 530 mile trip at 75 mph, plus heat in the winter, AC in the summer will reduce the effective range to about 250/275 miles and using 20% reserve 200/225 miles. That will require two stops (assuming there is a charging station at your destination) and turn your 8 hour trip into a 10 1/2 hour nightmare!

The charging time is the main reason I did not get the Tesla S when the lease on my 2016 E350 ended in December. Instead I opted for the E450 with its 21 gallon tank and close to a 600 mile range (I get 30+ mpg at 75 mph)!

With a single onboard charger connected to a 240-volt outlet, which Tesla recommends, the pace can reach speeds up to 31 miles of range for each hour of charging, meaning a full 300-mile charge takes less than 9.5 hours. In other words my regular trip would take 3 days, not the less than 8 hours I'm used to.

Super chargers will give a 50% charge in 30 minutes: 80% charge in 50/60 minutes and full charge in 80 minutes. I was figuring on two full charges, an additional 2 1/2 hours added to your trip!

A navigation system which allows a list view, showing all streets and turns along the route—a feature available in every other navigation ststem I seen, even $100 portable ones.

A way to adjust the advance distance when the navigation announces a turn ahead. On freeways, the exit announcement often comes dangerously late.

A drivers seat adjustment which responds to your key, so you don’t have to stand outside in the cold and rain to move the seat back if it’s too far forward. This feature is common, even on non luxury cars. Not available on Mercedes.

Heads up display offered on more models. I have it on my E300 and it’s great but it was in very short supply when I bought my car.

2025 BMW M3 Competition xDrive, 2019 E450 (Sold)
Would like to see it have the same infotainment as the 2021 S Class once the W214 is released. Also would like to see a lot of safety features standard such as the 360 camera and in colder climates rear windshield defroster should be standard. Id like to see soft close doors and HUD also standard and available in all markets. Also would like to see more exterior color choices as well as in the E350 leather should be standard as well as having the choice of going for MBTex for no additional cost. A feature that our X5 has was that you could assign programming to the key so that if you had two pairs of keys when you’d open the car with one key it would move the seat automatically depending on how it was setup.

This probably wont ever happen for the North American markets but it would be interesting if they ended up bringing a LWB variant similar to what China and India currently have.

Make all interior color options available independent of whether car is configured as a Luxury or Sport model.
Get rid of distronic/drive pilot and replace with Tesla autopilot (just kidding) and provide over the air software updates released as software improves.
Bring back a full size spare tire (or donut) and dump the run flats (at least in US where MB dealers are some times a long distance away).
Electric with long range (> 300 miles) but only if a fast super charger network like that implemented by Tesla is available, otherwise electric car is useless for long trips.
Make ventilated/heated seats available in MBTEX instead of only leather.

Couldn't agree more. The icon driven menu with a good multi tasking feature renders carplay useless compared to stock. However, it's still worthwhile for Google maps or waze during traffic.

Android auto is marginally better because of the toolbar but still not that good. I also only use it for Google maps and waze, in addition to the use of pocket casts app for listening to my podcasts.

However, I really blame Apple and Google not MB.

Only feature I want is Nothing, especially not touchscreen. I'm just blown away by how terrific my new wagon is. Okay wait, maybe offer integrated Google maps via the stock NAV like Audi does.

Glad I’m not the only one. Big fail by apple. I’ve never actually used google maps or Waze, although I know a lot of people who swear by it.

I think the only appeal of CarPlay would be if you are buying a car that is not equipped with nav, you can project it to the screen of the car.

Those are for Tesla (I'd never buy one) and they are limited to interstate roads. I want a Mercedes that can do the trip in a day!

Actually the Super Charging stations are now on more than just interstate roads. You can google Tesla and see where they are. But having said that, the charging times I posted are still accurate and will add 2 to 3 hours to your trip.

Apple Auto play: Came back from Vermont last week and basically from Vermont there are two ways: I 95 from New Haven to the bridges then LI or Merritt Parkway to bridges to LI. I relied on the Mercedes Nav. Sat in a traffic jam on I 95 for 1 1/2 hours, over 5 miles! Last time I will use the Mercedes nav. The Apple play integrates seamlessly on the big screen. I can toggle between the big screen and my radio by pressing the radio button on the dash. When I want to look at the maps, I hit the home button on the steering wheel, use the scroll up button to "Apple play" and depress. Two steps and voila the screen is back into either Waze or google maps and one button back to the radio!

Better build and material quality for the interior, and please give us over the air updates for the software.

I've been using Apple Car Play more and more these days and found the same way to switch between systems works well.

For me, there aren't many things I'd want to see that different in the W214.

I definitely would want wireless Apple Car Play
I'd like to see the car raised enough to not have to toggle on the 360 degree camera to avoid locking with a curb
I'd like to see the E Class sport a look which distinguishes it more from its siblings. The E still looks like a bigger C
Since I pay for Intelligent Lights, I WANT the full system, like they get in Europe
I'd like MBUX (without a touch screen - I simply don't want a touch screen in my car as my OCD will be challenged by finger prints on the screen)
Give us a more vibrant blue, like can be ordered on the SUVs. MB offers rather sedate colors on the E Class

That's about all I'd like to see.
The car HAS to have the inline 6 mild hybrid

Add me to this list!

I was jazzed originally to get CarPlay, but after using the all the MB in-car stuff, I have no need for CarPlay. I also dont like the cord coming out of the center console or having to plug the phone in and stuff everything into the console everytime I get in the car.

I feel these really should have been on the w213 anyway....

Wireless CarPlay. Waze police notifications are helpful since this car does too fast effortlessly. The wire and remembering to pull phone from my pocket prevents me from using it usually.

Full function multi beam Headlights.

Full map on drivers side screen. Better detail map program, the program doesn’t make good use of the big screen real estate. Just a big picture, but not proper detail.

No jump seat option on wagon: marginally useful at best. Would prefer stowage or collapsable basket like E.U.

Spare tire option.

Adjustable luxury suspension.

Lux suspension w/ diamond grill.

E63 AMG Estate
Wireless Car Play and ability to split screen
Proper Office in car
Touchscreen for Apple Car Play
Heated rear seats and massage seats in the UK (wasn’t able to get that option in 2018)
Proper integrated music streaming like BMW have with Napster
Better 3D maps, ideally with Sat Nav topography
Slicker transmission, the MCT is jerky and holds on to revs too long sometimes
Most importantly, better air suspension for a more compliant ride in Comfort!!!

Here is an idea:

Make Apple play and/or Android Auto wireless, eliminate the Mercedes navigation and drop the price the car $1000 by eliminating the basically useless Mercedes navigation system which is so inferior to either google maps or waze.

Remember when telephones were built into cars at a cost of hundreds of dollars? Cell phones made those phones obsolete.

Google maps and Waze make the Mercedes Navigation (and the navigation on my Ford Edge Sport as well) obsolete!

Just my opinion.

I would agree with that, the only other thing I’ve just thought of which I would want is HUD integration with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, it would be ideal if google maps directions were on my HUD

How about a MB App Store that allows you to download apps - nav or otherwise - directly to the Command screen and which uses your phones data plan or an optional car hotspot so that you have constant and updated info?
