Alternatively you could let a fellow member and E450 coupe owner drive it around while they're on holiday in California....

I always felt people who had neighbors start and run their cars for ten minutes or so was kinda counter productive. The car never really gets up to operating temp fully that way and that builds up more condensation in the oil and engine and it really does not do much to fully charge the battery. After doing that 3 or 4 times over a few months the car might not even start as the battery becomes more and more depleted. In your case standby mode is the best bet. It’s right at the top of vehicle setting. Make sure key is on in second position. Looking at mine right now it’s saying I could leave the car 17 weeks. It just dropped down to that from 18 weeks as I’m sitting here with the radio cranking fan on and engine off slowly depleting the battery. The more of a charge you have on your battery initially the more weeks you will show. Don’t forget to too release the e brake as the brake pads can rust to the rotors over time. Especially if the car was wet when you left it.

There is a new car peer-to-peer sharing service at Tampa airport similar to Uber without the driver. People loan their cars to strangers for a fee. It is called Turo.com.

You jest, but I thought I saw one on there when browsing once. There are a number of high end vehicles.

I don’t see how people can rent out performance cars. I could see the car coming back needing brakes tires and a slipping trans from 55 runs down the quarter mile strip.

They do vet their drivers to make sure they have clean driver's records. Although I did hear that there was a Porche on there at one point, but someone crashed it. They had a Lotus also but then kicked it off, I think some part, maybe the bumper got easily damaged but the replacement part was 20k. That's a big hit on the insurance. I've heard of people plugging in trackers into the OBDII port so they'll know if you're doing those 1/4 mile drag runs.
