I did get the 2nd gen to work briefly, and was disappointed to see that it was not using the full screen. Tried to play with the settings but then it stopped working entirely. Needed to do some other stuff, but will go play around some more this weekend.

This is an old photo from my Gen 1, but this morning the Gen 2 looked much the same. Note, I was amused that occasionally the logo on the left would show up as 'Baidu CarLife', which from google I understand is the chinese equivalent of Android Auto. Snapped this photo to document it, but this behavior seems to have ceased and Android Auto was the only one that showed up for the last year or so.
You could try your luck on another brand like this:
Teeran Wireless Android Auto Adapter - Plug & Play Dongle Converts Wired Android Auto to Wireless - For Android Phones https://a.co/d/7fxzEW4

They are all somewhat similar but might be worth a try. You probably won't get fullscreen but you might get the wireless function at least.

I've got the wireless function, booted up fine this morning, but still no fullscreen, and I don't really want to spend another $100 to test another device. Seems the Ottocast one should work fullscreen, but I really don't want to keep going through this. I submitted a ticket to AAWireless, will report back what they tell me.

Quick update, I contacted AAWireless, they were very responsive and made a new firmware (Beta?) version available to me. I installed the new firmware and enabled AAoverCP Beta (Android Auto over CarPlay). When the unit rebooted the vehicle asked if I wanted to start CarPlay, which I did, and now, voila!

Oh I just assumed you bought it via Amazon which has easy returns. Makes sense. My other suggestion won't get you widescreen either.

Hi - thanks for posting this. Do you have MBUX? If yes do you know which version? I think it really depends if AA over CP allows fullscreen based on MBUX version.
Thanks!

His profile shows a 2019 e450 wagon. The e-class didn't have MBUX in 2019.

His e450 should be NTG5.0, not NTG6.0 (MBUX)

This solution actually works!

I have a 2018 E400 (so a W213 series) and I've literally been trying to find a solution for this since I bought the car years ago. Today was the day I got it working!

I've tried multiple android auto wireless devices and none worked until I tried this one which solves the problem perfectly:
AAwireless 2023 model AAwireless 2023 model
*** This will only work if you enable the setting in the AAwireless app that says, "AA over CP" which tricks the car into thinking the signal is using Apple Carplay which automatically has full-screen capability. Such a smart solution this company came up with.

I'd also like to chime in with a request for any widescreen solutions for MBUX/NTG 6.0. I have a 2022 E450AT which suffers from the same issue. Thank you!

I'm not sure about this method working on MBUX (newer models). The test would be checking to see whether your car shows full-screen when connecting any newer iphone (to test whether Apple Carplay works). Reason is, typically carplay shows full-screen by default vs. Android Auto which doesn't. If your car will show-full screen using an iphone (opening AppleCarplay) then it likely would work using this method I show above (since this device shows android auto over the carplay connection to get the car to show android auto in full screen).

Hope that helps

Thanks. I just heard the same directly from AAWireless - with MBUX1.0/NTG6, if plugging in an iPhone does not show full screen Carplay, AAWireless will not show full screen Android Auto either.

Is your setup stable? I have the same setup and I feel like every few days I get in the car and my phone doesn't connect, and I have to go through the whole setup process again, losing all my AA settings, very annoying.

AAWireless is only an adapter which converts your wired connection to wireless.
Mercedes has deliberately limited the display of Carplay/Android Auto so that it cannot be displayed over the full width of the screen.

So if you want to show AA/CarPlay in full screen mode you will need a carplay module kit special for Mercedes.
Check this carplay module kit here: https://www.carputech.com/products/w...r-link-airplay

2019 E450 Wagon
I've been following this thread, and finally tried the AAWireless that is currently on sale at Amazon:
Amazon Amazon

I have a 2019 E450 wagon with the original COMAND software that came with the car. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S10 with current Android.

I usually have maps up and also Libby to listen to audiobooks when using AA and now it is much better with the full wide screen.

Original Android Auto with cord to USB port

Original Android Auto with Maps

Original Android Auto with both Libby and Maps

AAWireless using CarPlay setting

AAWireless using CarPlay setting

AAWireless using CarPlay setting

AAWireless using CarPlay setting

Setup was quick. You need to install their app from the Play Store. And, then follow the prompts to connect your phone to the AAWireless device. Maybe 5 minutes max.

Finding the setting to use Android Auto over Carplay took a few minutes. I wasn't sure where it was in the app. It's under CarPlay. Go to the Settings gear at the top right of the app and then scroll down to the bottom under CarPlay, you'll see "AA over CP" and make sure it is enabled. If you want to go back to just wireless AA, just turn this setting off.

It appears Carplay takes a little longer to launch than Android Auto, but I don't think it's a problem with the device, just a difference with AA and CarPlay. Or, it could be the negotiation with the phone, AAWirelss and car.

The font size on the Google Maps when in Carplay is much smaller than that in AA. So, if you rely on reading the upcoming exit numbers or street names, etc when using Maps, you may or may not like it.

I had originally thought I'd use the wireless charging since I wouldn't need to plug in the phone, but when the phone is on the wireless charge, it doesn't do well getting signals from the satellites for the GPS.
So, I still need to plug it in on long drives. But, for short drives around town, where I don't need to charge, I don't have to my phone out of my pocket.

The only problem I've found, but haven't looked into it too much, is that if you take a call on the phone, the CarPlay shuts down. Then starts back up when the call has ended. Not sure if there is a setting that changes this, but I don't do many calls in the car.

Rob in Atlanta.

Try playing with the 'Dongle Mode' settings in AAWireless settings, I can't remember if it needs to be on or off, but just change the setting from whatever it was. I also suspect you want your phone not to be connected to the car directly via bluetooth, only the AAWireless unit. For me, prior to changing this setting, calls were coming through my phone and not the car's audio system...didn't have the carplay shutting down problem. If this doesn't work, AAWIreless's customer service is very responsive and helpful.

I replaced the Ottocast dongle with the AAWireless one. A couple of observations. It boots up much faster. Still provides the full screen experience. But perhaps more importantly, my wife's phone can be connected via bluetooth and my phone via the AAWireless and calls can work seamlessly on both. Haven't had a situation where both phones receive a call simultaneously but that actually doesn't happen with or without being in the car. This option can afford greater flexibility for families with two phones or even households with a personal cell and a work cell.

I am using AAWireless with the AA over CP (CarPlay) option in a W213 prelift with NTG5.5. When trying to make a phone call or during incoming calls, the Android Auto screen disappears and switches to the Mercedes phone screen - at the same time, I can't hear the caller at all. When I end the call, AAWireless starts to reload as if I had just started the car. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

This just started happening to me after the most recent update. I'm beginning to hate this adapter, it seems to work for a few weeks then randomly stops connecting, and every update seems to require me spending days getting it working again. Not very stable.

Is your phone connected to your car? For instance if the AAwireless device is disconnected and you make a call will your phone connect to the car to allow the call through bluetooth?

Yes, when I disconnect from AA Wireless (e.g. I simply remove the AA Wireless adapter from the USB socket), the car is connected to Bluetooth and I can make phone calls. However, it never caused any problems when I connected my phone to Android Auto by cable - I could see the Android Auto screen all the time while calling and nothing disconnected.

Try forgetting your car. Just connect your phone only to the AAWireless device and see if that solves your problem.

Tell the car to completely "forget" the Bluetooth connection to the phone. Otherwise you'll have the car and adapter fighting each other for the Bluetooth connection. Android only allows a single Bluetooth connection for calls so you can't be connected to AAWireless and the car at the same time. You have to do your calls through android auto when you are using the adapter.
