Android Auto + Widescreen
Hi there!
As many of you know, Android Auto is not quite compatible with our W213 widescreen, it only used half of the screen and the left side is an ugly AA logo.
A coupe of days ago, Android Auto released an updated with "Widescreen support for select vehicles", I ran to my car and test it and seem doesn't worked. I cannot find any list of selected vehicles in internet.
anyone was lucky enough to make is work?

Best regards!

I got excited for a moment there, my biggest AA gripe for sure. I wonder if it's COMAND programming forcing the insert of the AA logo taking up 1/3 of the screen (since when coded, no AA widescreen support at the time), thus Google cannot override with widescreen support?

Same here one of the most desired features we needed. I think it's software based since Mercedes wouldn't allow the old aspect ratio to appear with two black bars left and right and worked out a way to incorporate that logo to the side to make it look reasonably better.
Now that AA supports widescreen I hope a software update is possible and is released to allow AA to use the full display in our vehicles.

I too literally jumped off the sofa and ran to the car when I got this update.
It seems to me that this must now be on Mercedes to make a config change to signal Android Auto that it's connected to a widescreen. Hopefully an update is in the works.

I'm sure an update will make it's way to our cars to enable the widescreen display.

And even if so, is it really worth changing to an entirely different phone just to populate 1/3rd of the screen that you probably use 1/12th of the day?

Apple Carpkay with iPhone does fill the entire display. This is very subjective, but I think it works great and iPhone X is best phone I have ever had!

Another update to Android Auto today. I'm out of town though. It is supposed to have further wide-screen support for select vehicles. Did Mercedes E class make the cut?

I tried, no luck.
I saw some differences in the "developer mode" and changed the video resolution from "Allow up to 1080p" to "Allow car and phone to negotiate" and still the same size, this allow car to negotiate option was not included in the past release.
Anybody using AA, should enable developer mode and allow up to 1080p, the image quality is a HUGE improvement.
best regards.

So with android auto will it play a YouTube video, I realize it won't do that if in motion but will it play YouTube videos when the car is in park? Just Curious. Apple will not, the apps which CarPlay allows are very limited.

I've never tried playing YouTube in the car so can't answer that for you.
Shame that android auto still doesn't have wide-screen. Apple does (my work phone) but their car mode is awful to navigate.

Wow if that’s as good as it looks like I’ll switch from IOS to android when this available. Especially if there is a greater selection of usable apps than IOS especially YouTube.

I would not get too excited until I actually see it working in the W213. Hopefully, the Mercedes developers follow all the best practices for using the AA API that handles things like screen resolution and aspect ratio. And most importantly, the AA logo on the left of the screen is actually done through the AA API and not by some screen overlay hack, which would be very disappointing.

Not great news, I hope MB will update our w213 headunits to support AA Wide Screen.

Android Auto has been updated to support this, now it is up to the car manufacturers to updated the software to take advantage of the changes, if they don't make changes on the headunit software no number of updates in Android Auto will make this magically happen, sadly.

if you have internet enabled in Comand you can watch YouTube videos whilst stationary or I select the ones I want to watch on any given journey and put them on a SD card to play when parked up.

Wow never been able to use YouTube on car play. Maybe it’s a Europe thing?
Wow can’t watch videos on mine. No YouTube on CarPlay with my iPhone 6. Never seen that split screen either. Like it. Maybe it’s a higher IOS than I have.

I'm running iOS 13 (beta 3). The split screen (which you can turn on or off) is new. This is my first car with CarPlay and have to say I'm really loving it!
