VIN #and Tracking

Ok collective hive mind. I placed an order for a 2020 E350 just before Thanksgiving. Finally have VIN number from my dealer/salesperson. The VIN number is very different than my 2017 E300

2020 VIN starts with W1KZF My 2017 VIN starts with WDDZF Just curious if anyone else has seen the same and can recommend a good vin decoder?

Also, I know this topic has been beaten to death but anyway to track the vehicle shipment with VIN? I found some older threads on the topic, but the directions do not work any longer.

A full vin # is required to use a decoding site. That said, the W indicates Germany. I couldn't find a definition for the 1K however it fits into a US sequence. It could represent a US model.

Are you sure that's the real vin number? That looks like something that would show up once you put the real vin into something like EPC and then it does something to the vin and you get a different number.

According to this, there is no 1k WMI, WDD is Mercedes.

https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicl...entifier_(WMI)

And here's a primer on how to decode vin numbers. If you're curious about the year of a car, you could just walk up to it and look at the vin on the windshield and the 10th digit will be the model year.

https://www.edmunds.com/how-to/how-t...-your-vin.html

Also here's a free MB vin decoder, but the database they use is older so it probably doesn't have anything really new it in, definitely not something that hasn't been built yet.

https://www.lastvin.com/

You would have to use MB's EPCnet to get the latest vin decoder, but that costs $75 a year. It used to be free.

My ordered wagon, which should be leaving Brunswick GA for the dealer shortly, VIN starts with W1KZH. According to the Vehicle Estimated Invoice, dealer called it a Build Sheet, the number listed is the VIN for the car. I gave the number to my insurance company, who was able to look it up in whatever source they have.

While the sources you gave failed to find my VIN number, this site: https://driving-tests.org/vin-decoder/ showed it correctly as a 2020 E450-4M manufactured in Sindelfingen, Germany. I think the OP's VIN is probably correct too.

none yet
I fired my first dealership in my attempt to buy my first Benz. when I interviewed and finally hired my second dealership they understood I wanted updates. I would get weekly updates printed netstar updates. I would then post them here. it was awesome watching it go through the process and ship and travel and finally get delivered.

Not all Mercedes are WDD. I'm not sure even all E class Mercedes are WDD. . In general, the first 3 digits (the WMI) tell you the country or region the car is made, the manufacturer and the division. For example, 1G1 is a General Motors, Chevrolet Division, 1G4 is a General Motors, Buick Division.

GLE class (formerly ML) is made in Alabama and has the number 4 as the first digit. Numbers 1 - 5 are assigned to North America, not just USA.
To make matters worse, Europe and USA have slightly different standards. I didn't see W1K shown on any current World Manufacturer Identifier lists either. Enter the complete VIN into LastVIN.com (I think it used to be DataMB.com) for reliable results.

Reliable, maybe. But not up to date. I didn't recognize my new 2020 E450 Wagon, while https://driving-tests.org/vin-decoder/does.

It takes some time before VIN numbers are entered into various data sites. AFAIK There is no single world repository.

Thanks all!
Seems to be the correct VIN. The only two sites that recognized the VIN are below.
https://mbworld.org/forums/vindecoder.php Found this one here on the forum
https://driving-tests.org/vin-decoder/

I'm getting anxious! Should be a few more weeks. Would have been really nice to be able to get access to "Joyful Anticipation" but its for customers is Germany only.
