Also looking at the rear end I can see why people think it looks like an A class, but to me the first thing I saw was a traditional E class.

They also got rid of the stardust on the rear lights. Personally, I thought it looked great.

Not crazy about the sad looking front grille. The rear taillights are more dynamic, but also look very similar to the one from cars like the Infiniti Q50. I think the luxury version front is particularly hideous and a bit of an afterthought, with no visual connection between the hood star ornament and the actual grille. Perhaps Mercedes is trying to phase out completely the two-grille design for the E-Class? Will be interesting to see how the new S-Class will deal with this... It all may look better in person. I'll be jealous of the new MBUX system, though...

W213 Night Edition 220d. (ML250 SLK350AMG)
The E-Class elegance line, with the star on the bonnet, actually looks better than the current version. This line is the only line that does not get the power domes on the bonnet, where they are now standard on the Avantgarde, AMG-Line, and AMG.
I remember reading back in 2016, when the W213 was released that MB were trying to make the E-Class more sporty and that's why the standard spec was the Avantgarde line without the star - it was the attempt to boost sales and beat the 5-series which was selling better. It seemed to have worked for MB. When Britta Seeger was talking at the online launch, i was surprised when she said that the W213 current generation has been the biggest selling version in its' history. In Melbourne, Australia, I don't see that many on the road. I still see heaps of the previous 2 generations.

With the post showing the leaked image of the E63S with the quad square pipes, the reveal last night of the E53 shows round quad pipes.

i had the opportunity to drive a gle350 for the past 2 weeks, am going to say without a scroll knob, it does get pretty annoying to use the new MBUX system - everything has a few more layers then it used to accomplish simple tasks.. and it just makes it that much harder without a scrolling knob. It definitely got more sophisticated and in my opinion too many options to be driving while touching the screen or using the mousepad.

MB is doing something wrong.
First... CLS was beautiful, original design, very nice car. .. then they release the A class that looks very similar to the CLS, that was a reason I didn't bought a CLS, looks like a cheap copy.
then, CLA that looks very similar as the A Class that looks very similar to the CLS. I know A class and CLA are the same platform.
Now the E class that looks like an A class, and rear like a toyota camry or mazda, HORRIBLE, no star dust? really? no double led stripes?
And for sure the new C class will look like an A class, an expensive A class.
I thought MB will use the same or similar LED design like the GLE but they preferred to make the car look like an A class, clearly a trend here. And because there are a lot more A class in the streets, CLS, A, C and E Class will clearly look the same for a untrained eye. Why bought a CLS 53? if you can buy a CLA 45s, cheaper, faster and they look almost the same !
Have a nice day!

As others have stated, the Infiniti Q50 back end look is a major fail. Those steering wheels.....what we're they thinking? Kabuki all the way......horrible!

Interior wise excellent, Exterior this may be the ugliest worst E class ever made by Merc. Im shocked at Mercedes. This eclass is horrible, it may sell but I dont know why anyone would buy this over a cla which it looks like with maybe 6 inches more space. To me this is one of Mercedes biggest fails ever other than ending production of the current S class coupe which is my affordable dream car. (Unmatched Dream car is Rimac C2)

I have read on a generally well informed German site that orders can be placed from mid May and first deliveries to dealers should take place in July (in Germany). That will probably be the same for other European countries.

Yea the design team did a horrible job with this new design. They are following the exterior language of the A class which makes it look identical. Not to mention the single bar LED in the front; awful job through and through.

The interior of this car is still its strong suit.

That said, the new taillights have been done before, probably by too many manufacturers to mention. Like this...
I suppose there's only so much one can do with taillights. Still I wonder what Mercedes decided was wrong with the unique, ribbon style 4 years ago? At least if you wanted to imitate an older design, it would be more excusable to imitate a previous Mercedes design?
