Alas, thanks to VW we'll never see another diesel car/SUV in the US from any of the German manufacturers. I've also owned several BMW's and Volvo's. I loved the Volvo's being produced in the early 2000's until about 2016. I've had an XC90 V8, S80 V8 and an XC70 T6 before getting my X5. The new 4 cylinder engines suck and Volvo has lost me as a customer. My wife has had the original X3 followed by the MB GLK. She is thinking of updating and getting the GLB, she like boxy SUV's not the rounded GLC which replaced her GLK. I've never owned a MB before but will at the end of the year when my X5 lease ends and I'm going to get a left over 2020 E450 wagon. I'm on the fence between the sport or luxury wagons. I like the look of wagons and I have two Greyhounds so a wagon is a must for me. I have test driven the 2020 Audi A6 Allroad and really liked it. It was smooth (standard air suspension) and a very nice smooth and powerful 6 cylinder engine. Unfortunately, it fails on the space mission by only having 45 cu ft of space with the rear seats folded down. That is pathetic for a mid-size wagon and only slightly worse than the Volvo V90 which only has 53 cu ft.
Good choice, I love the wagon, ultimately was too big for the wife, she got the GLC mainly because she takes our dog (a little sheltie) to work and he gets car sick in anything other than the back of an SUV/wagon. I also love the new Volvo styling but hate the powertrains and infotainment, but they really are good looking, especially the S60 and V60.

Wife and I also use to have two greyhounds and whippet a while back, and we even use to be a part of the foundation and would foster them and help the abused ones feel comfortable off the track. Miss those days, and those dogs. Good luck with the E-Wagon purchase.

Interesting - no luxury series, as we knew, but you can get those nice 19 inch 10 spoke wheels and the nappa leather from the luxury series... Nice.

So disappointing to see the traditional, Luxury trim grille not available. When it was available, the AMG Line trim seemed to make a statement. Now, it means nothing.

New E Class in the flesh! Looks better in person as expected. Very different angles and curves makes the car look more modern. The back just blends in, nothing really outstanding but it works.

I REALLY prefer the look of the S Class to the right of the new E. Too bad they don’t offer a Luxury E anymore.

Interesting that they moved the front side marker light out of the headlight assembly and onto the side of the bumper - seems like it was cleaner when it was inside the light. Overall - the front looks very modern and nice in the refresh - the back, that would probably grow on me... That specific unit you took a picture of, jhp, looks well put together - more consistent hood gap than my 2019 E450. Overall - looks good in the flesh - thanks for the picture.

2020 E450 Wagon
I built the E450 All Terrain on MBusa.com and in Mojave Silver with the Night Package looks nicely integrated. I thought the plastic cladding would look cheap but that is not the case with the Night Package. It might grow on me. My local dealer is getting their first in Nov so will go take a look and drive it then.

No more MB:(
Not bad, but kind of bland. Agree with Stream in that a luxury package would sweeten it for sure.

Not a step forward as far as I am concerned. The All-Terrain as the only regular wagon is a big mistake. The rear is very generic and the front is ok with the diamond burst but otherwise a loser.

Totally agree about the only wagon being the All Terrain. I'd have preferred a 'regular' wagon like they will have the ability to purchase in EU.

Would any of the E450 wagon owners here trade up to a E53 Wagon if they offered it, since you don't like the All Terrain? Keep in mind that the E53 is much softer and agreeable than the E63.

I would not, as I much prefer the Luxury styling of my E450. In addition, I imagine—but do not know for sure—that any of the AMG models would have a stiffer suspension and a “sportier” ride than my E450. My 2019 with Air Body Control rides and handles so beautifully, that I feel it is the perfect blend of comfort & sportiness. Lastly, the V6 in my car has way more power than I will ever need. If my car had come with a spare wheel/tire, I would proclaim it a “perfect” car, for me.

And, even though I’ve posted photos before, I’ll do it again, as I just like posting photos of this little gem.

If I were 20 years younger and full of myself I would buy an AMG wagon without hesitation. But today I might if I had to. Under no circumstances would I buy an All-Terraine. I would buy a Volvo Cross Country, or Audi All-Road first. I’ll be damned if I’ll let Benz stuff me with something I don’t want. If I am going to compromise I might as well save some money rather than spend more.

It's a very bizarre choice for MBUSA to make, but I'm sure somewhere their "research" told them to do this. We'll see if that actually works out and if not will they add the regular E450 wagon back. I don't see why they couldn't just offer both.

Research. Why do you think they did any research beyond looking to see what Volvo and Audi had done. It’s just group think in the imported car subsidiary club. Mark your calendar to see what sales have been this time next year.

I've test driven all the wagons you listed above. The Volvo is not even in the class of the MB and Audi. That four cylinder engine is a joke trying to move that 4300lb vehicle around. When I test drove the T6 version it made a whole lot of noise but never went anywhere when trying to merge onto the highway. You'll never get the performance and refinement of a 6 cylinder no matter what you bolt on to a 4 cylinder engine. Also, the cargo space offered in the V90/V90 CC is pathetic for a mid-size wagon. Even the XC70 before offered 33% more space. I loved the ride and drive of the A6 Allroad along with the beautiful interior however again, I was very disappointed by the cargo space, a mere 45 cu ft with rear seats folded down. I need the largest cargo space as I can got from a mid-size wagon and as we all know, the options for those are shrinking fast. That is why I'm looking at the MB wagon, either a 2020 E450 or TBD the 2021 All Terrain.

There is lots of trouble in the Daimler management chain.

From today's news
Zetsche, 67, a former head of the Mercedes-Benz brand, was due to take a seat as chairman of the board of directors at the Stuttgart-based company after a two-year cooling off period. In a surprise move, he announced in an interview in Sunday newspaper the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung that he would renounce his position, breaking a decades-old practice among German companies of promoting board members to directors. Now Manfred Bischoff, Daimler’s current chairman needs to find a new successor candidate before he retires on March 31, 2021.

99, No argument here. I owned a string of Volvo wagons, but moved to Benz when Volvo insisted people buy the Cross Country. The 4 cyl only routine has been roundly and justly criticized. I wanted to like the Jaguar wagon, but it is just too underdeveloped. BUT, I still love the V70R, a true collectible. I have zero interest in replacing the E 450. It is pretty close to perfect. I would be tempted by an 8 cyl 5 Series.

I'm curious, what did you think was underdeveloped about the Jaguar XF Sportbrake (wagon)? What model year did you evaluate (if not the current 2020 model)?

I loved Volvo's until the current generation. I've had an XC90 V8, an S80 V8, my wife bought a 2014 XC90 with the 3.2 litre and in 2015 I bought an XC70 T6. I was not too keen on the XC70 but they had the exact car I wanted feature wise and color (Crystal white on hazel leather interior) and after driving it I loved the T6 engine. The funny thing, I was cross shopping the 2015 E-350 wagon as both dealers were side by side and an E350 equipped the same as the XC70 T6 was $9K more. On top of that, the sales guy was from MA and he told me he is close buddies with the sales manager at Volvo and would call him to connect us. He was the nicest guy and he gave me a good deal on the XC70. The MSRP was $48700 (and something) and he sold it to me for $43K and the Aug I bought it in, Volvo was offering 6 years free maintenance on any new Volvo's sold so my first six services were included instead of the typical first three. Agreed on the V70R wagon.

I never got to drive a Jag wagon but loved the exterior look and the sound of the engine was awesome in the YT reviews I watched. It also has a big cargo space as well but was always concerned about Jag quality. I've had several BMW's and liked them all, including my current 2018 X5 diesel but I've heard of so many horror stories with their V8 engines beyond lease durations. Poor designs seals and issues with engine longevity.

I tried hard to get a BMW 540 wagon at one point. They were absolutely unobtainable. BMW sold more Z8s.

I might. I love my E450 wagon, but I did look at the E63. It’s just too stiff for my tastes, at least as a primary vehicle. An E53 might also be too stiff, but I’d look at one relative to this All terrain business.
