Tire change kit
Good morning everyone, so Im going on a road trip in May and I just cant get around the fact of no spare tire. Yes in the city or heavily populated areas run flats are great but in the middle of nowhere like the desert ill say no to the whole thing. So I finally bit the bullet and bought a used wheel and a tire to ease my concerns. Issue is there is not a tool kit in the car. Does anyone have a good source on the correct scissor jack and lug wrench? I know I can just buy a amazon version but I was hoping to get a jack that fit perfectly into the jack points. Let me know if any of you have a source or info on this

Any scissor jack will work as long as it has a flat pad on the top. The MB jacking pads have a universal fit. Any 17mm deep socket wrench will fit the lug bolts. Last month I purchased a compact spare that has the same revs per mile as my regular tires. I already had a jack and wrench. Link

I bit the the bullet when i leased my 2017 e300 and bought a fifth wheel with a full size tire. I couldn't travel too far from a MB Dealer without having worries. Or take the MB to the airport to catch a flight. As luck would have it, I didn't need the spare until the beginning of the fourth year of the lease. I was just beginning to think about selling it.
I was asked to pick up a friend from a surgical center and bring him home. Just as the center called to say that he was ready to be picked up, I hit a pot hole on a brand new paved road. I changed the tire in 15 minutes and that was the end of the "crisis". It took the dealer two days to get the new tire. How would it have worked out on the RFT? BTW, in eight months i'll have a jack, 17mm socket on a long bar, jack, tire and rim for sale.
All the MB service folks say that i can drive 50 miles, at 50 miles an hour. If i can't drive with a little branch caught under the car, then how would i be able to drive 50 miles on a rim????What am i missing???

Run flat tires have strengthened sidewalls so they don't collapse when punctured. Fifty miles is for a lightly loaded car. If there are 4 passengers the distance is reduced to 19 miles. That said, if the sidewall is damaged all bets are off.

I thought maybe you guys were going to go overboard and carry a compact hydraulic jack with something like a Milwaukee M18 high impact wrench to get the lug nuts off. 1400 ft pounds of torque, more than many air guns.

Oh yeah, you could just add a torque wrench in addition to all that.
Most places don't seem to do that and when I bought my car, I tried to get the tires balanced at a BJs, but they couldn't get the lug nuts off. Went to a different shop and they had the same problem, but they brought out a bigger air gun and was able to get the lug nuts off. That cordless impact is in case someone went crazy with an air gun and you couldn't get the lug nuts off with a regular wrench.
