I actually really like the look of the rear end. Oh well, to each his own, but I think that the last two iterations of the E Class wagons have been real lookers. Too bad the winning streak won’t continue.

Unfortunately Holden is gone thanks to GM, just like GM killed Saab.

I’m not a fan of AMG models. To me, the E63 is a horrendously overpowered vehicle, at least in the USA, where 95%+ of the speed limits are 65mph or less. I wouldn’t have one, even if it was the same price as my lowly E450.

Here in Canada, It looks like the only non-AMG wagon coming to Canada for MY21 is the E450 all-terrain version. Considering it's almost entire cosmetic and very little of any real substantive changes, and in my opinion not a positive look, I'll be looking at used prior-year models instead.

Au contraire, once you get past the Mississippi, you can do 80, all day, and once in MT time you can do 85-90.

in CA I-5 is a raceway. But the E450 has enough power to do that. The AMG Wagon is for dragsters.

LOL. I did have a Toyota 4x4 about that time. That was when I was still in Saskatchewan, then i got tired of the cold.

No, you're not! Most American wagon buyers want an "Estate" wagon or a "Sport" wagon. If they want to be roaring around dirt roads, through streams & over rocks, etc., they want an SUV. IMO, MB has shot themselves in the foot--yet again--by copying other makes, instead of offering something unique. It's a shame.

Most Americans do not want an "Estate" or "Sport" wagon. If that was true the sales numbers would be much higher. IMO most Americans want either a sedan or a SUV. A wagon has neither the functionality of a SUV nor the grace of a sedan.

ua549, I think that quote was in reference to the All Terrain wagon, not about station wagons in general.

I'm sorry, but I should have worded my post better. It should have read: "No, you're not! Most American buyers OF WAGONS want an "Estate" wagon or a "Sport" wagon. If they want to be roaring around dirt roads, through streams & over rocks, etc., they want an SUV. IMO, MB has shot themselves in the foot--yet again--by copying other makes, instead of offering something unique. It's a shame."

I will amend my post.

Even amended, I don't think you have it correctly. More than 90% of Trucks and SUVs NEVER see offroad use. They live on paved roads almost -- if not all -- the time. I've seen too many 98-lb (soaking wet) housewives driving by themselves in 5500 lb pick-up trucks and SUVs bought by their husbands. It's beyond impractical and looks insane, but they appear to love it.

Americans left wagons for Minivans in the late 1980s. And now that the major US makers have surrendered the sedan marketplace to the Japanese, Koreans and upmarket European makes, Americans have transitioned from the minivans to the SUVs/trucks lock, stock and barrel... and there appears to be no going back.

In my community, I see 4-5 MBs (sedans and SUVs) on the road every minute I drive. But I can't remember seeing an MB wagon, EVER (or any brand wagon for that matter.)

We have to thank the narrower roads throughout Europe for what remaining demand there is for station wagons. Without these European buyers, wagons would have died decades ago.

I was looking at the All-Terrain on the MBUSA website. Wow, what a mistake. I expect A6 wagon sales will be up appropriately.

My problem with the Allroad is the cargo space is tiny. I test drove one and really liked it but the cargo space is only 45 cu ft with rear seats down and they lie at about 25 degrees so they consume some of the limited space. For that reason I will not be buying one. I have found an E450 'sport' wagon with pretty much all my wanted options except for the color but I can live with it. E450 wagon inventory my dealer told me is down to around 45 cars in the whole country so its now or never

Back in the 90's my wife threatened to divorce me if I bought an E36 AMG wagon (imagine Snoopy with a used Volvo wagon). I bought a '93 Jeep Grand Cherokee instead (peace in the house).

WADR, "tiny" may be a little bit harsh. But the E cargo area is clearly larger and and if the size of the cargo area is the driver of the decision so be it. Mfgrs are not consistent in how they measure cargo volume. BMW used to measure to the scuppers which was very conservative. The angle on the hatch of a Volvo clearly eats into capacity. But at the end of the day a 19 or 20 E450 is going to be extremely hard to beat. But if your considering a 75 - 85 K car I would not be adverse to spending a grand to ship it, or even going to pick it up within say a 800 - 1000 miles. My free advice is to get the color you want, you are going to be living with it for a while.

I'm seriously doubtful that I will be able to find a low mileage CPO E450 wagon when the lease is up on my X5. I may settle for a GLC43 to keep my wife happy.
