Has anyone been brave enough to swap out the 3rd row seats with
Hello, all. I'm, for the time being, a proud owner of a 2004 E-class wagon, S211. The original owner was able to factory-order a replacement for the largely pointless third row seats, and instead got an automatically extendable loading floor installed (option code 943, back in the day).
In short, my wagon is a five-seater.
I'm thinking of getting an S213 and ripping out the third row seats and replacing it with the standard European storage floor and space in the back. (Third row seats appear to be an option, smart those Germans are, instead of Benz for Canada and the US thinking we all port youngsters around.)
Has anyone been lucky enough to order a car along the lines of what I'm trying to create (i.e. is there an option code for a non-3rd-row-seat storage area) or has anyone ripped out the third row and retrofitted the base storage floor and space?
Dying to know, as I don't want to pointlessly port a third row around for years.
Appreciate all suggestions / hints. Thanks!

I've read that some have done it, though I don't recall if it was for the AMG or the regular wagon. The wheel/tire have to be the right size and a piece of metal has to be removed. IIRC, MB has a PN for the wheel/tire. It definitely was on this forum, so you should be able to locate some info using the search function.

Ua, I believe Tug is correct. If you remove the third seat and the brace beneath it I believe a spare tire will fit. I am familiar with the other threads on this subject and nobody has posted that it is impossible after having tried to do it. It’s my understanding that in some jurisdictions a spare wheel is required either by law or driving conditions.
The third seat is indeed “pointless’” I can’t imagine there are many people who buy a $75,000 wagon to move around two 3 1/2 foot kids.

That brace is a structural member. Remove it and void your warranty. However, I don't believe there is enough room anyway. A spare requires a storage area of at least 27" per side fit.
There are families with small children near me that own E wagons - the ultimate mommy mobile. I see one unloading at the grade school almost every day.
Wagons are superior to SUVs when it comes to small children mounting/dismounting.

I will keep my eye out for an AMG wagon and look to see if the brace is there. I thought it was there to support the third seat footwell rather than as a structural member. But if anyone has an AMG. w/o a third seat you might look.
