Supported USB Audio Devices / 2021 E-450

Where can I get a list of USB audio players (MP3) that are supported by a 2021 E-450? If there’s no list of specific devices then a list of the required device specs.

In my previous car (2014 BMW 535) I was able to connect my old iPod to a USB port in the center console for playing music. It worked perfectly. When I connect my iPod to my E-450 I get a message on the car’s screen saying “the connected device is not supported. iPod” So my E-450 recognizes that an iPod is connected but says it’s not supported.

I know I can play music from my phone via Bluetooth but I would rather have a separate, dedicated device for playing music. So, what can I get that will be supported by my E-450?

Thanks.

That message sounds like it’s from Apple, not Mercedes. I get the same message if I use certain non Apple usb cables and usb plugs. If you’re using a non Apple brand cable or plug, you might want to try switching.

i used to have an ipod to but switched to an usb stick (any brand will do)

then use software to sync your itunes with the stick - i use this: iSyncer – sync your music the easiest way!

works very well

I am using the original USB cable that came with my iPod however, since that cable has a USB-A connector, I also have to use the USB-A to USB-C adapter that came with my E-450.

Does that give you music sorted correctly into albums, artwork etc for Comand?

you might have do fiddle around a bit with the way the software writes to the USB
there are several ways to index, so run a few short tests, especially to see if it creates the playlists like you want

I gave up on trying to connect my iPod. I copied all of my music files onto a USB flash drive, connected it to my E-450 and it's working fine. I did not need any sync software. I just copied the files from my PC to the flash drive.

True, that works as well, but in that case, if you add new music or change playlists, you have to manually copy these updates to the usb
(or completely re-copy from scratch)

with the software the changes are done automatically
