I've read they will add stuff after the fact, and they do that also at the destination ports.
I can't speak to Mercedes specifically, but I have toured the BMW VPC in Oxnard, CA, and there is often work done on BMWs after they come off a ship in the US. Some options/accessories are installed, along with outfitting the cars with Monroney stickers, owners manuals, etc. Cars are cleaned up and unfortunately sometimes repaired if damage is inflicted in transit. And then there are just the logistics of hundreds or thousands of cars offloaded at the same time that need to run through the VPC and onto trucks. Can take hours, days, or weeks...and that was during the best of times.

Mine is due in port of Los Angeles/San Pedro next week...curious how long it will take to the dealer in Beverly Hills...
