I send locations using Google maps, then hit share and pick Mercedes Me as the app.

Have you logged into your Mercedes Me account on the Mercedes Me web site, if so then select your vehicle, then you will see the map update option.

Signed in. I see my vehicle. No where on this page mentions anything about MAP updates. I've cut off some numbers for privacy.

You folks aren’t even talking about the same thing. One of you is talking about sending an address to the car for Navigation. The other one is talking about updating maps.

Depending on your car, you can send addresses via your laptop/desktop using HERE Wego (https://wego.here.com/ ).
On your smartphone you can use almost any app what is able to "share addresses", for example from your agenda directly, or from google maps, etc.
But then you have the ME App correctly installed and connected with your ME account to your car.

I took the car out a few hours later and guess what finally showed up on the NAV screen?
the address I sent to the car earlier. I have no idea how long it took to finally arrive in the car.

any way to get updated maps without mercedesme? Dealer quoted me $350 to update but seems ridiculous to pay for something like this that isnt used very often.

Wow, I thought the $100 Acura charges was bad.

What a load of confusion. I went out to the car (2019 MY) and looked to see what edition of the maps was installed. Answer: Version 2020 - North America.

On my 2012 MY, I had to buy the map upgrade (on CD) and then pay an extortionate amount for the dealer to install it.

I am hoping this means (1) the car down loaded the update over the air (2) all of North America is in one update, and (3) my maps are up to date (2021 ?) and (4) I don't need to involve the dealer.

Why people who buy almost six figure cars need to put up with this confusion is beyond me. MBUSA needs to upgrade its customer care.

Yes, 2020 (V20.0) is the latest version for North America, but no the map for North America is not a single update. It's broken up into multiple regions and only your home region as configured in the Mercedes me connect portal gets updated over the air. The remaining regions and the voice recognition needs to be updated manually. You can login to the portal and see the OTA updates as well as if there are map updates and which version is installed for each of your regions. If you are not completely up-to-date you can download the updates manually.

Ugh..... I just upgraded my download manager from V 1.0.11 (or was it 1.0.10, I can't recall exactly) to V 1.0.12 and the dang thing crashes shortly after execution. Is there any legit website that would have the older download manager for MacOS so that I can update my maps? Ideas?

Is anybody else having trouble manually downloading maps using the MB Download Manager on a Mac? I gave up hope after emailing MB Canada's customer support. I could not get it through their thick heads that I was using THEIR DOWNLOAD MANAGER, whereas they kept coming back saying that the Mercedes ME app is only supposed to be used on an iPhone or iPad. DUH! I honestly could not convince them I wasn't trying to use the ME app on my desktop; it was their download manager that was crashing.

I haven't tried it on a Mac. I also just recently updated the download manager to 1.0.12, but after I had updated the maps, so don't know if 1.0.12 still works even on Windows. It does open up, but without starting the download from the website, it doesn't actually do anything. The download manager is a Java application, so it's the same app on Mac and Windows. The executable is just bootstrapping the Java environment. You may have to update your JRE (Java Runtime Environment). On Windows it comes bundled with the JRE, and I don't have a global JRE installed on my system, so it's using the one it comes with. It may use the global installed one if you have one, and if it's an older version that could be the reason for the crash.

Anyone know if the map updates are VIN specific? For example, if I were to use the download manager to download maps for a vehicle with an active Mercedes Me subscription on top an SD card, could I use it on a different vehicle afterwards? Say for example the download was specifically for a 2019 E 450, could the update then be performed using that card on a 2017 E 300 for example (could it be possible it will reject because the vehicle does not have an active Mercedes Me subscription or is it possible that once the update is performed on the target vehicle it gets wiped so other vehicles can't use it or is it VIN specific?

Asking because my friend has an E 300 and Mercedes Me expired for them and they didn't renew yet but wants the latest map updates. While at it, can the maps be installed on my friend's 2018 C 300 (I assume the 2018 C 300 in North America uses Garmin instead of HERE maps right? Could anyone also confirm that?

On a side note, 2021 (V22.0) has been pushed to Canada and might be available in USA as well so for those who has V20.0 please check for updates. It says it is map version V400.

For those who wait for automatic updates, it says it might take a maximum of 3 months for it to reach your vehicle because of staged roll out. So manual is the way to go, plus speech data can only be updated manually.

I don't remember where I read it, but yes I believe they are VIN locked. The SD card doesn't get wiped after the install, but if I remember correctly somebody tried to use the same SD card for different vehicles and it didn't work. The second VIN gave an error message saying something like the update isn't valid. The formats of the map databases are different for different generations. NTG 5 has a different format than NTG 5.5 that has a different format than MBUX, but it's really irrelevant, because you have to download for your VIN anyway. Yes, V22.0 came out at the end of December. I've fully updated my C63 with the manual update. The OTA update still hasn't been pushed out. It's not showing up in the update history, but I usually do a manual update anyway in order to update the voice recognition.

I figured. It would be VIN lock because of copyright issues, thanks superswiss for your answer!

You are on the mark that the DM software using Java appears to be the issue. I'd already upgraded my Java plugin prior to trying the DM software. I'm running Java 8 build 311.

The crash report (in part, I've not attached most of it because it goes on for quite some length) indicates:

What’s the hurry? I’ve had my car since the end of July. I’ve had 3 map updates. Automatically. One for the central states and two for the southern states. If I ever decide to take the car to the west coast, I’ll change the web site to download that.

As said, with each map update there's also an update to the voice recognition which doesn't get updated via the OTA update. So because of that I primarily do the manual update and while I'm at it I might as well update all regions. These updates do bring improvements, especially if there's been road construction in your area.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
I've got the 2021 V22 on my 2019 E450. It just loaded about a month ago, now there is new V22.1 which just came out Jan 4th it looks like but for some reason It is just staying on 2 percent and not loading any further. I didnt drive a real lot today but will be in the car for 2 hours tomorrow so I'll see if it goes over 2 percent. It's almost like though that benz shut me down for automatic updates or something? The last update held at 2 percent and they I called benz and they said they were extending the only 3 year update service for everyone because they had not come out with pricing on everything related to the App. I think they are gonna have a "A la carte" menu where they charge for individual services such as door lock/unlock, car status etc. Or one set charge per year for everything related to the app. That was the feeling I got talking to the guy at Benz customer service but I've not heard anything on pricing as yet. My app still seems to be working ok as far as door unlock/lock, and remote start etc. I just dunno how much longer that stuff is gonna work without paying for it though and not really sure if it's worth it to me. I suppose we will have to pay for the OTA map updates too if we want to keep that? The car is over 3 years old now.

With my 2018 S class benz everything with the Mercedes me still works and that car is 4 years old now, although I was told that is for 5 years so I guess I might have to pay for usage of that app too eventually if I want to use the remote door unlock/lock and remote start features, there is no OTA map update feature with that car and I was told there also are no map updates available for that car even if I wanted to have them done by two different MB dealers.

Honestly... no rush at all, especially for those that prefer using their phone instead. For those who likes to use the car's navigation, having the latest update is not a bad idea.

So um, I just checked and seems like all the services are to be ordered separately in six categories (this is for Canada, not sure if it is the same for MBUSA when it is available in USA, meaning MBUSA might bundle them all in one full package for a cheaper price):

Vehicle Monitoring ($24.95 CAD +Tax):
1. Vehicle Locator
2. Vehicle Tracker
3. Valet Protect & Curfew Minder
4. Speed Alert

Vehicle Setup ($24.95 CAD +Tax):
1. Vehicle Status
2. Remote Door Lock & Unlock
3. Personalization
4. Theft Notification and Parking Damage Detection

Live Traffic Information ($49.95 CAD +Tax):
1. Live Traffic Information
2. Car-to-X Communication

Online Map Update ($49.95 CAD +Tax):

Navigation Services ($39.95 CAD +Tax):
1. Weather Map
2. Weather Forecast
3. Local Search

Remote Engine Start ($49.95 CAD +Tax):

It takes forever with the over the air map updates, mines been working at it the past 2 weeks of driving, I'm up to 98 percent now but it's been stuck on 98 percent for days. Thats just for the Southeastern usa updates too. I guess a lot of data.

Depends on the amount of vehicles being updated that day and the data connection and the signal strength your Mercedes Me provider (it is usually provided by one of the carriers in your country in contract with Mercedes) has dependent on where your vehicle is currently at. It is way faster if you manually download it but there is no rush really. I heard it updates the fastest if your engine is on and the vehicle isn't moving.

Something wrong with yours or you are not driving enough. I think it restarts the install every time you park. Mine usually takes 2 days at most, depending on how much I'm driving. The download is one thing, but if you are at 98% then it's hung on the install, not the download. Install of the entire USA, Canada and Mexico takes about 30 minutes in one session (I have waited for it while sitting in the car at times), so a single region is done in about 10 minutes, once it has finished downloading. You may wanna try to reset the unit.
