I can confirm that both USB ports work with the dashcam feature.

2012 E350
How have you guys enjoyed the performance of the car compared to the E350 from last gen (those that had the E350 V6)? My dad will be looking to upgrade in a year or two. Is the new i6 engine as good as everyone says or possibly look at the E43/53? My dad only drives at the speed limit so I think the E450 would be best for him, and he’s not interested in the slower 4 cyclinder

Depends to be honest. I can't say about last gen E350 but the facelift E450's inline-6 had common faults with the 48V battery, we seen owners reporting their cars having this issue on the forums for MY19, MY20. MY21, your dad might be lucky and get a car without this issue (basically a car with the 48V mild-hybrid without the 48V battery being defective). If you are looking at the E43 anyways, it had a V6 without the 48V mild-hybrid tech, E53 on the other hand does. The E450 pre-facelift (up till MY20 also has a V6)

I had a 2016 E350 with the V6 engine. I have driven the EClass with the 4 cylinder engine. My present car is a 2019 E450 with the V6 turbo:
  • I found the 4 cylinder peppy but not powerful
  • I think the V6 in my E450 is smoother than the V6 in my E350
  • My present car has more than enough power for any situation I am in. My default driving mode is engine ECO, Steering Sport and Ride Comfort. I would not pay extra for either the E43 or E53.
  • On long trips at average speed of 75 mph, I get between 30 and 32 mpg. I think the economy is similar to the 4 cylinder as the engine is revving much lower.
  • The engine is whisper quiet
I have not driven the new I6 with the 48 volt battery.

Hopes this helps.

I am ashamed to say that I didn’t check I only checked using CarPlay in the center consul and it didn’t work. My apologies for giving the wrong information indeed the dash cam does work if connected to the center consul. I am toying with the idea of replacing the dash cam that comes with the car in favor of a black view or something like that it runs continuously and has more features I’m sorry for my initial miss information

If so, this really sucks because I ordered the dash cam option and I do use CarPlay mostly always....though, this is pending how the chip shortage affects my build.
I use the port in the center console for the dash cam, and the one by the cup holder for Apple Play.

I'm glad you just posted that, Phil, because I was about to respond to your earlier post to let you know the port in the center console works fine for the dash cam. No need to be ashamed. There's a lot of tech in these cars. I've been regularly testing the tech features for over three months and seem to discover something new every day.
