2021 E450 Service Indicator

Has anyone reset the service indicator on a 2021 E class yet? I stopped by the dealership today and they refused to give me instructions or let me talk to a Technician because I did not come to them to have the oil changed. I have seen one video on YouTube, but it doesn't seem to work. I also had a 2019 C300 so I am familiar how to get to the workshop option on that car, but the 2021 has a different steering wheel and possibly a different procedure. Thanks for any help.

Which video did you watch? Your car has MBUX, not sure if you tried this yet but (Key position 1 so basically ignition button position 1 - Press it once):
1. Hold the capacitive HOME button for 10 seconds
2. Hold the capacitive OK button (the one with the arrow pointing in all directions) for 5 seconds
3. Press HOME once then do the usual scrolling to the left and see if you can locate the workshop menu

It did not work. The video I watched gave the same information. I might try it again a few times to make sure the issue isnt me.

Hmmm, thanks for your update, I am sorry to hear that. I have a friend that does his own oil change and he has a facelift E350, that is what he showed me when he did the reset a week ago, he told me because I asked him out of curiosity. I might had got the seconds wrong though, maybe that is why you are having trouble, maybe instead of pressing for 10 seconds you are supposed to do 5. That being said, the capacitive touch is so finicky on the E facelift steering wheel, so it might not had registered properly when you touched it, there might be a technique to get it to register properly. My friend went on a business trip and won't be back until a week or so, hopefully you figure it out soon if not I will let you know when I have a chance to ask him.

I have a 2019 E450 and I was able to change the service indicator.

I posted instructions and YouTube demonstration.

It was several months ago. Hope this helps.

Thank you for all of the help! Your advice did work. I was waiting a second or so between each step. When you do the steps with no waiting in between it works and opens up the workshop. Again, I appreciate your help!

I can not get to the proper menus to come up to reset my oil change. I have looked at multiple videos but none of them have the steering wheel that is on my car. Please help. @W205C43PFL, tried your process with no luck. Does the center part of the screen need to be on the Trip information? That is where I started.

Thanks @konigstiger . I tried that one yesterday with no luck. I printed the paper and did it again today just because I was so frustrated yesterday I could have done something wrong. No luck again today.

Sorry to hear that you are having difficulties, I will try to assist you although forum member konigstiger's documents are way more helpful than the way I explained it as there are pictures and detailed steps, if you have further questions feel free to ask and if I can answer I will be more than happy to, I am sure forum member konigstiger will be more than happy to help you as well.

@konigstiger that didn't help because I couldn't get into the Workshop menu.

After hanging my head in despair, I see what looks like a key fob in one of the cup holders. So I put my key fob on top of it and went through the first procedure you sent and voila, the Workshop menu came up. I was able to reset the oil service and all is good.

Thanks so much for everyone's help. @konigstiger , @W205C43PFL

Good job! Glad you figured it out! That key icon spot is used when your car key battery is completely out or for any reason your vehicle isn't detecting the key. Since you need to use that, it means for some reason your car key wasn't detected. Your car usually tells you well in advance that your car key's battery is low.

W205c43pfl, I did try every specified routine that konigstiger's 2 pdf's showed. Still cannot get to that darn menu. Am I missing something? Placed the keyfob in holder, shut parking brake off, put in ignition 1 (and also tried in ignition 2) as shown in diagram, held Home button 10 sec, then the 4-arrow button 5 sec and all I get is all the sub menus but no Workshop. Never had this problem when changing the rear pads on the 2018 S Class. So frustrating especially when Cajun Heat said he finally got the menu and has the same 2021 All terrain as I do.

Thank you all again for all your patience.

Did you make sure you are in the right menu? For example your odometer is showing before proceeding?

Hey Vinny.

I really had a hard time getting into the menu and after about 10 tries it worked. I tried it again on my next oil change and had the same issue.

I sold the All-Terrain so can't go replicate the process for you now. Good luck.

FINALLY! It was Cajun Heat stating that he had to try over and over again that gave me the patience to finally see what the problem was. You do start by holding the Home button for 5 seconds. Let go and quickly press the OK (4 arrow) FOR AT LEAST 20 SECONDS and voila, there was the Workshop Tools menu! I have attached the whole brake pad replacement procedure I went thru today to change my pads. Total success!
One more point, don't know if placing your keyfob in the console holder as per W205C43PFL's suggestion made any difference, however I did place it there before starting the routine.
Oh, by the way, the dealer was full of crap telling me that the only way to access the 2021 menu was for them to connect their OBD and thru Xentry!

Nice! Happy to hear that you figured it out, now you just proved them wrong and proved yet once again they are stealerships xD. Thanks for sharing the process with us forum members as well, it will most likely help others with this model who are struggling. Thanks for mentioning me but I am going to return the credit back to forum member Cajun Heat as it was his suggestion to try putting the keyfob in the centre console holder, I just came across it and remember about it hence I mentioned it here.

Old thread but it helped me with a 2021 E450 4matic wagon. And I know I tried all the permutations I read before but somehow finally got it to work. Here's how it went:

1) I used ignition position 1
2) Hit the home button and use arrows to ensure center display is on 'Trip'
3) Press and Hold Home for 10 seconds
4) Don't pause between buttons - Press Hold Ok for 5 seconds
5) Press Home
6) Use arrows to go to the left and workshop is there
7) For oil service reset, need to hit the ASYST menu. When I select that it says I need ignition position 2. Press start button once.

I tried this multiple times and it worked. I tried some variation of this and other methods probably 25 times over the weekend and wasn't successful until I made sure there was a quick delay between step 3 and 4. I was allowing a 1 second delay previously.
