Attached are photos for those curious on what's replaced (did the thermostat since the engine was out which was required but made sense to do).

Just had the same thing happen to my 2015 C300. Piston 1. But the quote I am getting is over $20,000. Not sure what I am going to do, still owe money on this one!

Sorry to hear that I mean there is an active lawsuit might want to look in to that?

Sorry to hear. Options are pay an indy shop to replace the engine, or sell the vehicle to a dealer as a trade-in.

That sucks and I've been through that. Try to find a reputable shop that deals with Foreign cars. They can order the same engine that the dealership will (will ship from Germany) and can save you on labor costs. The cost of the engine new is the same no matter where you go; I saved almost 7k and it's all the labor cost. Best of luck.
Also, I'd get in contact with the lawyers I posted earlier so you become part of the lawsuit going on with this engine.

Anyone having an issue with the W213 E300 engine piston?
Currently, I have a 2017 E300 RWD around 57K miles and have a piston #1 failure.

Engine oil goes directly into piston #1 due to piston issue. I did not take this car to the dealership and just went to a local shop because of the cost.
I heard that the M274 engine has an issue with its piston.

Does anyone know why this is causing it and any lawsuit regarding the M274 engine?

I don't think I can even afford to fix this one.

The local auto shop mentioned that there was a C300 around 27K that had the same issue and the dealership quote her 25K for an engine swap.

I will keep updating this post when I get quotes from a local shop. They are doing a detailed inspection of my car right now.

Thank you
It's interesting to see that the M274 engines across several models and years have this issue and it's not just the 2015 C300 (W205).

Even though you are out of warranty report it to the NHTSA.

Its not really that interesting. It’s the same engine. If you put the same engine in several different models it’s still going to suffer from the same design deficiencies regardless what car you put it in.

The interesting part is that MB has done nothing to solve a known issue. When the M272 debacle, they acknowledge it, and fixed previous engine and newer engines became basically bullet proof.

Sure the issue is not class specific

agreed for sure on that point. Mercedes traditionally has been pretty good at acknowledging issues and resolving them, especially compared to BMW which has gone several generations in the past without addressing obvious issues like cooling systems, rod bearings etc.

Infinity?

The only thing I wonder is, Infinity uses the same M270 engine (same engine as the M274 but transverse mounted) but you never hear anything about cracked pistons and I don’t mean just a few, I mean NOTHING! I’ve gotten on the CLA and A and GLA class pages and I don’t see anything about cracked pistons and the only difference is that it’s a transverse mounted engine.

I wonder what the difference is?
