Trunk Lid Opening Height Issue

We just purchased a 2021 E350 sedan. It has the hands-free trunk opening function that allows the lid to be opened with the key fob or a kicking motion under the rear bumper.

When we open the trunk lid, it opens halfway and stops there. We have to then manually push it up so that it is fully open. I can’t figure out how to make the trunk lid open all the way automatically.

My first thought was that the trunk lid opening height may be adjustable, which is a feature on tailgates for many SUVs. I haven’t found any reference to this capability in the owners manual, and I haven’t figured out any way to adjust the trunk lid opening height.

Does anyone know what I need to do to have the trunk lid open all the way?

I tried pulling it up from its stopping point, put I still have to push it manually to get it fully opened.

Warranty repair time for 2021 vehicle. The dealer will adjust it so that it works as intended. The hands-free trunk opens fully on my 2016 without issue, 6 years since new.

Does the auto close work as it should?

Yes, the auto close does work.

Well, it's not really an auto-open trunk lid if you have to manually help it along. So add it to the list for your next dealer warranty work visit.

Will do. Hopefully it’s an easy fix. Thanks.

It is an optional setting that you can change. I accidently changed the setting on my 21 E250 and the trunk started opening only halfway. Go to Settings/Vehicle, scroll down to "Trunk Lid Restriction" and deselect it.

This is it! I deselected the Trunk Lid Restriction, and now we're all good. Thanks for your help!
