Unfortunately Mercedes thinks wagons should now resemble Subaru's or Volvo's unless you want to fork over 150-200K for an AMG rocket.




22" wheels are a bit much for me: Yes I agree. But do not fret: being an EV, range, range, range and charging speeds are #1, #2, #3 and #4 priorities: to increase range, as the Ford MachE did and continues to do, use taller narrower tires, not wider fatter tires. So I expect to see maximum of 18" or 19' wheels.

The states and local governments rather than the Federal government are responsible for the maintenance and repairs of all roads except interstates and in New York, the state and local governments and not the Federal governments maintains our Interstates.
But I agree with you, as compared to Europe, our roads are in a deplorable condition: From my point of view, I have always gone to the smallest tire available even on my Boxster: the incremental improvement in handling, going from a standard 18" wheel to a 19" or 20" is more than offset by the deterioration in the quality of the ride. through in more blowouts because of smaller sidewalls plus the added cost of replacement of 19" and/or 20" tires vs. 18" tires: not for me!
The Germans in their cars always followed function over form: I agree! while to some a 19" or 20" wheel might look better (not to me) than an 18" wheel, changing from 18" to 19" and/or 20" wheel is the opposite: form over function!
Just my $.02 and everyone is entitled to their own opinion!
