So people are aware before splurging on the AR option…navigation becomes a subscription service after the first year. MB does not talk a lot about that in their marketing…

Goes to show how different experiences can be…gas mileage is the least impressive aspect of the car to me. Averaging mid-17s, and the highest I have seen on the highway is 27 in Eco mode.

I am surprised. I should have added I only use Comfort. I didn't feel comfortable with the engine shutting off and starting at highway speeds.

^ Seems to be +1 MPG using Eco on the highway. I expect from the car lowering more than the ‘sailing’ function, although it is welcome and seamless in operation.

I’m probably taking a hit with the 20s on performance tires, but was still expecting better economy overall given all of the tech.

It works!
if you have discoloration from clothes on the seats, do you use another product to clean it off first?

Yes, I first use a leather cleaner with a microfiber towel.
Mercedes sells cleaners as well as Meguiar's, Turtle Wax, Griot's, etc.

I am confused about what Apple CarPlay does, and whether it is wireless or wired. Certainly even my 2013 coupe connects with my iPhone over Bluetooth for hands free calls, contact list, etc. Is CarPlay for being able to, for example, play music from your iPhone through the stereo? So what exactly does CarPlay do, and I does the 2022 AT have wireless CarPlay, or does the phone have to be connected via USB-C for CarPlay functions. And is the wireless charger ONLY for charging and not for any other connectivity?

i am just reposting this as I am still confused about Apple CarPlay, what it does, whether it is wireless in the 2022 AT, and whether there is any related function of the wireless charging pad to CarPlay, or whether it is just a charging pad.

Charging pad is for charging, and NFC pairing.
Car Play is not wireless, and must be connected over USB.

OK, so good to know that it isn't wireless...disappointing.
I am still unsure what NFC pairing is (as opposed to Bluetooth recognizing your phone when you enter the car and pairing so using the phone is handsfree).
1. What is it that will not work from your iphone unless you connect it over USB without wireless CarPlay?
Contact list/?
Playing music from iphone?
Watching Apple Maps or Google Maps navigate on the car screen rather than iphone screen?
2. What exactly is NFC pairing? What pairing come does this do, does it only come if you get the charging pad, does all functionality of NFC come with plugging phone into USB-C anyway?
3. Is the wireless charging option only for charging, or is it the only way to get NFC pairing, and if so, functionally what does NFC add??

I am going in on Tuesday to give them the final color and options list for our build scheduled for Sept 1-10...which is. why I am trying to nail this down.

Thanks1

Went in to verify built.
Already a delay in build date from first week in September to first week in October...not a big deal for us, though hope there are not more delays after this, but not the end of the world if there are.
We decided for sure on the Selenite Grey metallic after looking at some cars, but the surprise is that we finally got to look at a Neva Grey interior and it was just too light for us. From our computer screen it definitely looked like a light grey, but in person it looked like a barely off white.
Pretty, but with 3 dogs my wife said no way.
And since we don't tend to like brown, I guess it's a black leather interior.
I was also surprised that there was apparently an option for the neva grey headliner on the dealer build (not on the website consumer build) even though the interior color is black leather...that would certainly lighten up the vast expanse of the interior, but I am not sure how the light headliner would look with the black leather interior.
If any of you have that color combination...black leather with neva grey headliner, please post a photo!!

Even the dealer said he was surprised how few color options Mercedes has these days, both for exterior colors and interior colors.

Ooops. Dealer told us that when he was trying to add the neva grey headliner with the black leather, it wouldn’t let him, and apparently if you opt for the night package you can’t opt for the light neva grey headliner. No biggee, but weird.

2021 AMG E63s Wagon
Wagons are cool

@rmgrenley like my Selenite Grey metallic with brown leather interior. I hardly use optional HUD or Pano roof standard on AMG E63s Spec. Should have instead got acoustic comfort package and night trim to match the forged black AMG wheels that I later got with dedicated non run flat Continental all season tires. Original wheels with RFT stacked in garage...have 4 spare tires now!

Post pics when your AT arrives! Definitely a step up from the Audi or agricultural Subaru wagons...although enjoyed my leased sacrificial company XV Crosstrek with 5-speed manual that I parked on Post overnight for off road duty at White Sands Missile Range during work hours.

2022 E450 All Terrain
1. We ordered a 2020 e450 with acoustic package but the order got canceled due to covid-19 supply chain issues. In March of this year we purchased an All Terrain off of the show room floor and it was of course loaded. We have nothing to compare it to other than a 1997 Toyota Avalon that had similar glass. The car is quiet but yes the run flat tires can be heard slightly, but that is not the main reason we don't like the run flats.

3. From the beginning I was not particularly impressed with the comfort of the air ride suspension while driving over certain road surfaces where other lesser cars provide less jarring manners. Right away I attributed it to 19 inch rims and run-flats. I checked with the dealer to see if the 18" rims for a luxury equipped 2020 sedan would work. They had four new rims like this on hand. They put the car on the rack and allowed me to take a look. The clearance for the brakes with the 18" rims was very very close so I decided not to go that route. I did purchase a MB jack, tool kit, and space saver tire for when I get rid of the Pirelli run flats. Hoping for a slightly less jarring and even more quiet ride when we switch to non run flat Michelins.

4. Not had any issues with the battery.

5. As mentioned, this car is loaded and it has all of the driver assist features, most of which I have turned off because I am not a fan of having the car correct my steering or complain when I don't have both hands on the wheel while cruise control is turned on. The steering wheel controls are advanced in the way of being touch sensitive and it creates more problems than it solves. I would much rather have tactile activated buttons like that is on my 2011 BMW 328 which is much simpler and easier to use and you can't mess up by accidentally activated a feature you don't want. Not a fan of the steering wheel controls on this car. My 328 is so much easier and ergonomic when it comes to turning on and off cruise.

7. Yes I know there is no seven. But here is something to be aware of. Our car has air ride and moves up and down more than what I would think is normal. Sometimes when you come to a stop, the front end lowers and then raises or the opposite. Need to go back to the dealer a second time to see if they will listen to our complaints. It upsets the driving experience. I drove the car a couple of days ago in traffic and on the highway for about 200 miles and the car had this behavior five or six times while stopping at a red lights.

My mileage experience was very different, much better than my most optimistic guess.
E450 All Terrain Wagon:
200 mile trip and 36.9 mpg, actual gas fill number.
37.0 E mpg gauge so extremely close.

Note: I was on some 55 mph highways: cruised at 60 mph and some freeway: cruised at 65 mph.

Blown away by such great mileage…

My E450 gets similar mileage.

I think at highway speeds the mpg of the E450 is equal to or better than the E300/E350. The E450 6 just doesn't have to work as hard as the 4 cylinder in the E300/350. In stop and go traffic, the E300/350 does better.

Finally replacing our 2001 wagon after 165K miles!
Have some questions and decisions to make and wondered if anyone can help.

1. Acoustic Comfort Package: Does it make a difference? Does it change the appearance of the glass either from outside or looking through from inside? Are there issues if someone needed to replace a broken windshield or side glass? Are the Run Flat Tires noisier and therefore this would be advantageous?

2. Night Option: Are the “chrome” pieces that with this option are “glossy black”, especially in the front and rear, actually painted plastic or are they actually “chrome vs. black” painted metal? Are there issues with the black vs. chrome scratching more easily and one or both not being able to be touched up? I thought I saw on this forum a complaint about the scratches and the only option being to replace the $1000 bumper…but that might be the case either way.

Also, are the tires the same either way? I know the wheels are different but not sure if by AMG wheels that only affects the wheels and not the tires.
Which leads me to:

3. Run Flat Tires: having never had these, I admit they make me a little nervous…not in town, but we drive 180 miles back and forth to a vacation home on the Oregon coast quite frequently, so being more than 50 miles from a place that can order the tires, let alone having them in stock, is an issue. I know I can replace all 4 tires, but of course there is no room for a spare. Not sure there is a great answer for this, and it appears to be the way things are. Anyone having the same dilemma?

Also, I have heard that the RFTs are firmer, feel more road irregularities, and are nosier. And yet, the video reviews of the 2022 e450 AT say that the ride is great and smooth. What is the story? In Seattle the roads are horrible. I have a 2013 E350 coupe that I love, but the one thing that drives me crazy are the low profile tires…I feel every bump and the potholes are treacherously. I would not be anxious to have low profile tires or anything resembling them in road feel.

What 19 inch tires does the 2022 wagon come with? I have heard the Pirelli sidewalls are less durable than the Michelin RFT’s, but not sure…and apparently a sidewall issue would negate the “run flat” ability of the tire, as I understand it.

4. 48V battery problems: Have read about these on this forum, though only in the 2021 model. Has anyone experienced the 48v battery issue in the 2022 model? Or have they corrected this issue? Could just imagine suffering this problem in Oregon and having to have it towed 180 miles to the nearest MB dealer and being stranded for weeks!

5. Driver Assist package: I haven’t used cruise control in either of our cars for 20 years. It seems like most, but not all, of these features are in effect while using cruise control. Not sure whether the cost is worth it in my case…any thoughts?

6. I see the disclaimers on the MB site about the chip scarcity and read the threads where some people have received builds that come in without certain features, such as without the 12.3 inch screen. Does anyone know whether the 2022’s are still arriving without ordered features, or was that mostly an issue in in 2021 and early 2022?

thank you in advance to anyone willing to take the time to answer all these questions!!!

I ordered a 2021 e450 all terrain with all options except the heads up display in Jan 2021. I finally received my car in April of 2022. It was a 2022 model year with all options I ordered except the under car hatch release. My understanding is that MB has rationed certain options so there is a good posibility you will not be able to get some options you want because they have been already allocated and capped out.

My car has the night treatment which is a high gloss black. Note that the grill, lower rocker panels and rear lift still has some chrome accents. I do have the 20" wheel upgrade which comes with staggered tires. Yes the are run flats but I dont notice any additional harshness over the 19: on my 2018 e400 coupe. I did not get the acoustic glass but wish I did. The car is quiet but with the option it would have been silent. All depends on how sensitive you are to wind noise. As for the drivers assist package, this is one reason I bought the car. the adaptive cruse control and stage 3 hands free is a must have on long trips (which is all I do)

after EXPEL stealth wrap, window tinting and ceramic coat

as delivered

MB has not solved the 48V issue. It appears on recent models. Search the X167/V167 fora.

Oy, that sounds horrible. Our build was Sept 24, and the dealer said he used to quote 6-8 weeks, but know quotes 10-12 weeks.
6 months and still in Germany sucks!
Any explanation from your dealer??

The dealer keeps saying that Mercedes isn't giving them good info. I was told in August that it was on the way to port. Last week I was told that it never WENT to the port and that shipping is backed up so Mercedes held it.
I've had a VIN and PO, so I know the car hasn't been sold out from under me.

A friend who has put a deposit down to pre-order a Porsche SUV was told that the deposit holds his place and that it would be 6 months before he could put in the pre-order, and who knows how long after that to receive the car.
Maybe MB estimates 2-3 months and then delays several months until you receive it!
Maybe it will come with a "fixed" battery issue after all that wait...one could only hope.

This surprises me, since in a recent highway trip (225 miles or thereabouts), the car showed 32.3 mpg (and still moving higher) and I guess if it were a longer trip, the mpg would have moved up higher. This is on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires in the 245/45/19 size all around.

2022 E450 All-Terrain
I recently bought a 2022 Polar white with the Neva Grey interior (purchased as-is from the showroom), along with the night package and panoramic roof, and I have not seen any leather discoloration yet (less than 2K miles). I intend to regularly clean/condition my leather, as I have always done with all of my current and prior leather equipped cars. The car feels light and airy all around, with this color combo, and I love that feel.

I personally would have preferred the beige leather interior with brown wood, but an All-terrain (already a rare beast) with that combo, was just not available, which led me to choose the one I have.

No 48V issues whatsoever…..as of yet.

2018 E400 Wagon, P3, Cavansite Blue Metallic, Designo Interior
Four weeks ago I traded my 2017 E300 Sedan for a 2018 E400 Wagon. Took a few hundred mile trip last week and the gas mileage was just about the same for the 6 cylinder E400 as I used to get from the 4 cylinder E300 - I got 32+ mpg for the trip. I also get around 22 mpg around town so far, maybe a mile or two less than the E300. Ironically, I had a 2014 E350 Wagon a couple of years ago. With that 6 cylinder engine, the best I could get on the highway was around 25 mpg.

You referenced Distronic. I LOVE Distronic and won't even look at a car that doesn't have it. At highways speeds it is terrific and it is even better in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic as is safely keeps me the right distance behind the person in front of me without me having to keep my foot on the brake. Distronic greatly lowers the stress of driving, either in gas-brake, gas-brake bumper to bumper traffic or when cruising at 75mph. I love to use it but only do so when conditions allow for it to be safely used.

A buddy of mine was a VP of sales for a company that sold MB some of the tech they use for assisted driving. He described a trip he made to MB testing grounds in Germany whereby MB executives demonstrated capabilities of Distronic and other tech on a test track. He was wowed and I was convinced. And I now have my 3rd Distronic equipped Mercedes!
