Lease return and tires

Have a 2020 E350 4Matic that will be out of lease soon. I have 245/40-19 run flats on the vehicle now and was told that the car has to have run flats when I turn it in. I need new tires now and do not want to spend -$1500 for tires that I’ll use for a couple of months. I have seen some deals on used run flats, but sizes vary. What kind of leeway do I have for using a different size. I have an opportunity to buy 255/40-19 for a huge discount and they have 10/32. How much can I stray either way from my original tire size. I plan to buy a full set and not mix and match.

How many miles on the car?
(Can't help with the question, just curious how long the run-flats will last on my E-450)

I leased cars in the past, never had problems with tires, but I was the perfect lease customer: Paid for 36,000 miles, but only drove 18,000.

Following.

Car has 34k and maybe 5k left on tires. Hate run flats. As they wear, car begins to ride like crap. Had a BMW 535 w run flats that lasted 16k miles and replaced with non flats and it rode like a new car. Fortunately, my new GLE450 doesn’t have run flats.

You lease will require 3/32" of tread left. Anything less than that, they will charge you for. You can a cheap tire gauge to check. I always use mine to check tire wear, front to back and side to side.

see:
Amazon Amazon

If you had RF, then your lease will require RF. Like NorseWagon above, I lease for 36 months, 30K miles and usually turn in my cars with about 28,000 miles, so my tires are still good.

Since every E Class came with RF, I would think, but could be wrong, that the dealer will check to make sure you have RF on the car. Whether they check tire size is another question.

Having said all that, your car probably has substantial equity, i.e., the market value is considerably higher than the residual. Shame to give up that equity. Can it worked against your new 450 GLE?

I know about the tread depth and the requirement to return with run flats. I will probably be under the tread depth. New GLE is owned outright. All I need is to know what other sizes might work.

Tires that are a different diameter from stock should never be mounted, period.

Not only that but some tire shops like the big chains won't mount tires that weren't standard for the car. That forces you to either just bring in the rims so they won't know the car or just go to a local mom and pop who wouldn't care.

Have you checked your local craigslist? Facebook marketplace is a wreck when looking for tires.
