Key FOB Easter Egg

Maybe this is common knowledge but as a fellow enthusiast who likes to know the ins and outs of my vehicle I was surprised to recently find a small trick with the key FOB to stop the physical key from poking out of the FOB. All you have to do is press the silver button on the FOB and push the physical key further in and it will lock into place. Push the silver button again and it will pop right back out. Curious to know if others knew about this.

I use the top part of the fob as a key chain hoop, so need that portion exposed and not locked in. jus' sayn'

I'm sure a lot of people use it to attach their key rings, this was just something neat for those that like to have a plain fob with nothing else on it.

Thanks @np6345!

I was aware of this and it is really nice for the clean “every day carry” look. I keep my remaining keys on a Keysmart titanium key bar (I absolutely hate clutter and key jingle and it stops the buttons and shell getting all scratched up).

I recently bought these TPU key cases from eBay as well as replacing the key shells with aftermarket replacements.

I’m a bit of a nerd with this stuff, in case you couldn’t tell! 😂

I tried it just now but do NOT recommend it!

i think we're forcing something that was not meant to be

Key got stuck and took me a while to get it out again.

(This might be an easter egg, but the egg is broken!)

.
The dealer pointed out this feature when I bought the car 6 years ago. It is a great feature since it is the only key I have. All of my other locks are controlled by a keypad or cell phone.

I'm with you on the key clutter thing, can't stand it myself. The replacement key shell looks pretty slick too, I like how you can change the look without adding extra bulk to it. Will definitely look into getting some for myself!
