Tell the valet to put the vehicle in standby mode everytime it is moved. Wish you a speedy recovery.

Can you please explain in detail how to put the car in "standby mode": Is it just double clicking close on the key fob? I have a 2019 E450.

Thanks.

Go to vehicle settings in the mbux infotainment put vehicle accessory mode (key position 2) so basically press the ignition button twice without foot on brake and look for standby mode.

Just checked a video: When you are in standby mode, the video indicates the alarm system is disabled. Is this correct?

Also each time you start the car, the video indicates, your car goes out of standby mode. Would this not mean that each time the valet moves the car, the car goes out of standby mode?

Thanks in advance.

Yes that is correct along with all connections with Mercedes Me servers.

Yes the car exits standby mode everytime the car is started.

So if the valet moves the car, will the standby mode be defeated?

yes, standby mode needs to be reactivated each time the car is started or the start button is pressed.

Sitting for 8 weeks will not necessarily result in an immediate issue but can reduce the useful life of the battery. A car battery will last longer when it's used regularly.

I tried leaving my E in the airport parking lot for 2 weeks at a time and noticed there were some minor electrical issues when I'd land. Now I take the pick up truck for those longer work trips which has fewer electronics and its ready to drive away with no glitches every time.

A seriously doubt that any valet — well, maybe 1 out of 100 — would take the time or have the interest in either learning how to do that or actually doing it.

What does standby mode do? We often leave my wife's E400 wagon unused in our attached garage for weeks at a time. So, I can put the car in standby mode rather than opening the hood and attaching the clamps for the battery maintainer, which would easier.

Standby mode turns off most of the electrical systems: to put in standby mode double click the lock on your key fob. To make sure your car is in standby mode, go to the door handle. In standby mode the car will not unlock if you touch the door handle. The downside is that security systems are not active. This may not be acceptable if you leave your car in a parking lot at an airport.

Having said that I would recommend a battery tender for your wife's car. I see no downside.

Just my $.02

Actually, I read the manual and to engage standby mode you need to go to "vehicle setting" and click the box "standby mode."

Here's what page 167 of my manual states:
If standby mode is activated, the vehicle can be parked for an extended period of time without losing power. Standby mode is characterized by the following:
the starter battery is preserved.
the maximum period out of use is displayed
in the multimedia system display.
functions such as interior protection or tow-
away protection are not available.
the connection to online services is interrupted."
Standby mode disengages when you start the car and has to be set each time. Double-clicking on the key fob just de-activates the feature that allows you unlock the car without touching the key fob.

Page 168 of my manual states the following:
"Activating or deactivating standby mode:
Activate or deactivate the function.
When you activate the function, a prompt appears.
Select [ ]
Standby mode is activated."
It's amazing how much battery power these cars consume while sitting idle. I charged the battery to 100% capacity (as indicated by the lights on my Battery Tender charger. The car sat idle for about 5 days, during which I opened the driver's door a couple of times and closed the windows and sunroof (after airing out the car following interior cleaning). When I attached the Battery Tender today, the lights didn't even indicate a charge of 80% of capacity. So I reconnected the charger to the battery once again. I'd think the battery would need to be replaced, except that I put in a new AGM battery about a year ago (2.5k miles).

Yes, with standby mode it lasts for many more weeks when you start with a fully charged battery. Months actually, although recommend adding stabilizer and inflating tires and other things if storing for that long.

As it is, with mine being at less than 80% capacity, the display showed 24 weeks -- which way more than I need.

When you put your car in standby mode, it shows capacity and in months.

If this reliable is this a good indication of the state of your battery: If fully charged and only 4 weeks I assume that means it is time for a new battery.

Thoughts?

I think you misread my post. I said 24 weeks, not 4 weeks.

No I didn't misread your post of 24 weeks.

If my battery shows complete charge and only 4 weeks, do you think it is reliable and if so, I think I should get a new battery.

Oh, I see. If it shows four weeks, I would say your battery is just fine. If the battery is too low to start the car after sitting for four weeks, I believe you would get a message on the display saying something. You might want to leave the car in a spot where it's easy to jump start it if necessary, just in case.
