Navigation update
Thought I'd share something I recently learned about my 2018 E 400. I just recently purchased the car and couldn't get the navigation system to work. I kept getting a message to insert map media. After much internet searching I learned that this car with code 531 got it's update over the air or via a USB flash drive after having downloaded the update off the MB app. I registered my car, which had never been registered on the app, and attempted to download the updates. I got a message that my car was unable to do that and was given a 800 number which I called. They were helpful but said I needed to contact a dealer. After speaking to the service department which referred me to sales I've learned I'm basically SOL...... The salesman was quit helpful and said that basically anything prior to 2022 that used over the air or USB updates was obsolete and not worth trying to use. he recommended using Apple Car Play or Android Auto. Which I've used the Android and it worked fine. He said he didn't think Mercedes ever had as good of maps as Google. LOL!! And, he says he try's to talk customers out of subscribing to the $17.00/month fee to use the features on the app.
So, I hope this helps someone chasing this issue like I have. So far the car has been a blast to drive.

Maybe the salesman was frustrated or receives a job offer from BMW
Mercedes Maps are quite nice and very helpful because is offline. If you pay for Live Traffic subscription is even smarter.
More of that...is free for most of the members here.

So, I found the MB downloader at a website MBRetrofit, downloaded it, found my NTG5.5, United States, a spare USB Drive and I'm currently downloading the maps. I understand this can take some time. The only reason I've gotten this "New" car is I was rear ended recently in my E63 AMG and it was totaled. So, i'm looking forward to unlocking and enjoying this "New" car.

GREAT!!! It started installing. I didn't start the car I just pushed the ignition button once. After I got my battery charger out and hooked up when I pressed the ignition button once and went to the Navigation I got the message insert media. I didn't remove the USB drive and I see the red light on the USB flickering.
So, do I not touch anything or am I going to have to drive around until it finishes installing?

Trigital or Plumber 452,
I have a 2017 GLE 350. The head unit, Radio and Navigation system, went black. I had to replace it with a used one. Wasn't easy to get the whole thing up and running. Had to take it to the dealership and paid $250 to clear the anti-theft code, but then it worked. Problem is there is no Navigation installed. I get a message that says install media. Bought one on Amazon but it was not compatible. After a little research, I believe I have the COMAND NTG5.1 system. Apparently not compatible with most SD Cards. I am trying to find Navigation updates North America edition for this vehicle. I should have had the dealership install it, but the are notoriously overpriced on everything.
Would either of you be able to help?

First you have to tell us if you have Comand or Audio 20.
Only Audio 20 accept Maps over Sdcard.
Command has HDD and the Maps can be installed from a USB

Follow Trigital's instructions. He really helped me out. Can you go to settings and see what system you have? I apologize for not being much help. As you can tell if you've read though this thread the "Steaership" I mean dealership may not always be that helpful.

Yeah... I just bought W213 2016. Maybe my car is old and Mercedes portal does not allow my car update and can't even see the download Manager. In fact, in the last few days I could not find Mercedes DL Manager anywhere until I see this thread and went to MBTools as Plumber452 said.
I do exactly what Plumber452 and follow Trigital's instruction.

If all OK try this Generated Code ...and do not forget to do the 143 days delayed maintenance to your car as the till now the service history was perfect.

I completed format and download the map into both usb and SD card (as my car have both interface inside the hand rest storage).
It is very dark in Australia now, so I probably will try to insert the SD Card into the car tomorrow morning. I will report back here my progress.
BTW, you mean I have to wait for another few months before I performing service to the car ?

Delayed means is already due with 145 days. I would prioritize the maintenance if you want to keep a clean record.
