Rear Cupholder Issue

Another random strange quality issue. Not a big deal, but interesting.

I was just at the dealer and here’s how it works:
1. Tap once and it pops out as seen in your video
2. Then tap lightly again and it’ll pop out further exposing the cup holder
Hope this helps!

This is correct, it works the same as the W223 S-Class, the first is either a pen or phone holder.

Yes, I know it is over-engineered but hey, that is "why" we buy German cars... right?

All is revealed by reading the owner's manual.

Yeah, not a quality poblem, just an unintuitive design problem.

Edit: I initially thought I found the page talking about the cup holders in the MBUSA's operator's manual but realized that is not it

Well that was fun searching for the answer for OP, not much success though, sorry I wasn't able to help. It is in the European W223 operator's manual but not in any country's W214 operator's manual, MB might had forgot about it or wanted to be kept as an easter egg.

Thanks for trying to find the answer. Much better than the other guy who smugly (and wrongly) said it was in the owner's manual without ever even taking a look at it.

Can't really blame the other forum member, lots of forum members here don't read the operator's manual, don't use the search on the forums. Sometimes asking questions that was literally answered a thread before or a post above.

I admit that is kind of a human nature thing, choose the path of least resistance but I guess that forum member got annoyed.

That said, we are all here to help at the end of the day and there are no bad questions.

Usually MB does include stuff like this in the operator's manual so I was too surprised when I couldn't find it for the W214.

Sorry if I didn't sound helpful... I don't have a W214, so I wouldn't have its manual. And don't fault me for it...
Actually, I thought I was being nice. The common response in the established forums is "RTFM" or "Read The Freaking Manual," or some sort. Once this new forum gets the same questions repeated over and over, you will see RTFM here, too.

Maybe MB is getting skimpy on their usual 400-page manuals. Or maybe they assume it's a common "feature" since the W223 has it. There are lots of features that are not in the manual. What I've learned though, is that very few people read the manual. Just too busy to put the cellphone down long enough. Much easier to thumb-punch a witless question, "Where is my ashtray" etc.

Trying to be helpful, here are some videos with several W214 Easter Eggs thrown in... Just Google search "w214 hidden features videos youtube"

Oh look, the cupholder even flips UP, too (around 4:05 minutes) to make a bookstop (for your manual)

Happy to help...

Thanks for chiming in. I do agree many people on here don't do any research before posting. By the way, the last video is mine
