spongy brake pedal
Hi,
I just test drove the E450 and was impressed with the power, handling, quality, but I found that the brake pedal was quite spongy with no feel.Did anybody else drive the E450 and felt that the brake pedal was spongy?

I picked up my E450 almost 2 weeks ago, The brake pedal feels a little different than my W213 and my W238. But after almost 2 weeks I have gotten used to it. I think it relates to the regen for the 48V battery. Otherwise this car is significantly improved over my W213.

Ditto feel for my W206 I wrote on a thread in that sub forum. Have been too busy to take it in for an MB check up, but this is confirmation that these new MBs may have this spongy brake issue. Will be good to hear from more owners of W214s as well.

Ditto. I just took delivery on an E450 and had the same impression of the brakes compared to other Mercedes and cars that I have owned. Thanks to the responses that clarified that it was due to regen braking.

My W214 E350 also feels a bit spongy. It stops fine though. It's just how the peddle feels.

Thanks all for the feedback on this. I did test drive a W214 350 and didn’t notice the spongy feel, but it appears it is built in to these new regen motor system. Kinda sucks compared to older MBs. I guess innovation comes with its own drawbacks…
