I tried using a broker once. It was a waste of money. The broker's price + fee wasn't as good as the MB dealer's price. If you can't or don't like to negotiate with a dealer, a broker may save you some time and effort. That's it.

While I would personally recommend doing your research so you can hack your cars by yourselfs. If you are looking for a proper MB broker visit LH and do some research, read the broker reviews and make a decision from there.

100% agreement.

Here is a suggestion: Costco has relationships with dealers and here on Long Island with Mercedes. On my last car, the Costco dealership was the second low price: the lowest price was from the dealer I had previously bought from.

So if you do not like to negotiate you might want to consider Costco.

Interesting. Thanks. So, Costco simply gets a price and an out-the door deal for you? I'm guessing the crux of this is that once you get the price -- it's either been discounted to some extent, hence eliminating the need for negotiating? Thanks again.

A dealer signs up with Costco to increase sales. To get referrals from Costco the dealer must agree to a prearranged markup over cost. This markup is verifiable. If the dealer charges above the Costco agreed to markup Costco will terminate the dealership. If asked by the customer the dealer is required to disclose the markup.

The only dealer who beat the Costco dealer was the dealer who sold me my prior car and wanted to keep me as a customer

Hope this helps

Absolutely helps, thanks. Makes a lot of sense for the right buyer. Saves a lot of time, aggravation, etc. Any idea of what the pre-arranged mark-up is over cost? In today's day and age, with retainage monies, other concessions, and other financial arrangements between manufacturers' and dealers, who knows what the "real" cost is. I do know that my car dealer clients claim the sales side of the business no longer makes anywhere near what they used to, and the service side of the business comprises an overwhelming percentage of the profit of the entire dealership.

The dealer can change their Costco price on each model as often as they want (daily, for example), and each dealer gets to pick their own prices, so it’s hard to generalize.

It’s also true generally speaking that new car sales are not the main profit center for most dealerships nowadays, especially for non-luxury brands. Mandatory addons, interest rate markups, undervalued trade-ins, and extended warranties can all make the dealer more profit than the car itself. This is why many dealers won’t discount as much if you’re paying cash or if you don’t have a trade.

I do not know the allowable dealer markup. With the age of the internet profit on selling cars has plummeted. Most dealer profit is now in service

That is not true. When you go through Costco, the price is already fixed between the dealer and the Costco customer. If the dealer changes the price, as you allege, Costco will terminate the relationship.

Dealers make a profit on financing. That is why quite often the cash price is more than the financed price. Similarly, leasing prices are less than the cash price

When I negotiate a new car price, trade-in and payment terms are always TBA. Most of the time, if not always, I do not finance or have a trade-in. IMO most people have an inflated view (retail) of what their trade-in is actually worth (wholesale).

When I calculate the value of my car for either buying at the end of a lease or trade in, I go to KBB.com and find the trade in value which is pretty much the same as wholesale.

Anyone who thinks that when they trade in they will get more than wholesale is not being serious or realistic. The dealer, when he goes to sell your trade, in order to make a profit can only pay wholesale. This has always been true, except for a brief period during Covid.

KBB has its own problems and isn’t always reliable; it’s best to check KBB and NADA, but also submit your car to carmax and carvana’s instant offer engine, since they actually buy cars and KBB doesn’t. Obviously, if you can get the MMR price that’s even more useful, but that requires a friendly dealer to show it to you.

You are correct. The dealership was Mercedes-Benz of Massapequa.

Suggest you check back in 30 days as dealers come and go.

Here is the information that appears when you go to Costco to find a dealer:

As an added member benefit, Costco Auto Program reviews auto purchase agreements for price verification, compliance, and member-support purposes. I hereby consent to Costco Auto Program obtaining my vehicle purchase or lease documentation from an Approved Costco Auto Program dealer.

Has Costcoever offered MB deals? I only saw Volvo/Audi/... with limited models available.
Long Island dealers only offered $500 off as fleet discount from AMEX.

I got a $500 coupon from Sam’s Club when I bought my E450 in September.
