Engine compartment hooting noise

I've spoken with my dealer's service dept on this and basically got a "duh" reply (and they've been a good service department): Typically when the car sits for a couple of hours or overnight, after starting and driving a mile or so, there's this hoot sound coming from the engine compartment. To duplicate the sound, drink half a bottle of beer and then blow across the top. It lasts maybe 10 seconds then stops, and doesn't reoccur until I restart the car. If the shutdown lasts maybe 10 minutes, it does not reoccur. Any ideas?

Keep the beer away from the car overnight.

Based on my experience with my previous E55(s) and all the noises those cars emitted while running fine I'm going to ignore any noise that comes and goes unless it's accompanied by a diminishment in performance or warning codes and that would be my recommendation

Does it have Airmatic? Not sure if it’s the culprit but the air suspension makes a lot of odd noises

Agree, airmatic makes a lot of noises, but it's somewhat obvious that it's the air shocks. I find the car does make a variety of noises which appear to be normal. Both the 2024 I had and the 2025 I have now made similar noises.

It's the All Terrain so yes, it has the Airmatic suspension. If normal, it's surprisingly loud (even without my hearing aids !) for a Mercedes.

Are you sure it's from the hood and not air flowing when the AC starts up? If some vents are closed, that might make the sound louder.

In my GLE if the climate in the back is set to a high blower setting, I get a loud whooshing sound in the front dash.

The sound occurs well after the a/c (on AUTO) turns on, and is not originating inside the interior. I've alerted the dealer so unless the car starts to drive funny, I won't be taking it in for a look until the annual service is due (this summer).

I think I have this same sound on my E350 sedan. It doesn't happen that often, but I think it's coming from the HVAC system or engine compartment when the car is cold. It doesn't really bother me. I just assume it's part of normal operation with all of the systems on the car. It goes away after a few seconds, but I've only had my car for less than 2 months. Btw, I don't have Airmatic.

The dealer knows about it so if something is about to blow up, it's on them.
