2024 E450 Center Console Exchange

My car has a center console in Brown Maple Wood in a black leather interior with a Superscreen - so quite a contrast. Not bad but I’d like to investigate removing the console and replacing with the alternative “Silver metallic Mixed Fabric” - the carbon-look, which would match the otherwise black interior. So, first, anyone have access to the part numbers and second, is that a DIY project?

I looked into doing that replacement 5 years ago when the center console only came in black plastic. The labor cost back then was over $600. I don't recall the cost of the burl walnut but it was very expensive. There are some threads on the forum about it along with some images. My recollection is that disconnecting lots wiring and reattaching it correctly was beyond my skill set. Bottom line - I did not replace the console.

I don't think this will help but personal opinion, that wood is tasteful and works well with that interior. I say leave it.

I have the same colored console, but mine’s a non-black interior. In lieu of the Super-screen, I have the same brown with aluminum lines on the portion that the super-screen occupies (a $1515 option - I call it daylight robbery !). And the whole combination matches with my Macchiato Beige interior.

The Brown wood with Aluminum lines that occupies the portion that the Superscreen occupies, has vertical parallel aluminum lines…….I wish they were horizontal aluminum lines that’d have made it look a lot more elegant. Either way, they charge $1515 for the wood/aluminum on the dash, which is exactly the same cost as the Super-screen.

If I were you, I would just keep the console. It provides a bit of contrast to the all-black look.

Funny I have the silver metalic mixed fiber center console and I want to change to the maple wood console, so we could switch parts. The tricky part is the installation. I wish someone has access to the assemble guide so we could DIY ourselves...

Se attached. I don't have anything about the removal process. Make sure to label each item that is disconnected and snap a photo. That will make the installation process easier.
Bon chance.

Edit - the attached applies to the W213, but the process should be similar for the W214.

the post that follows is advising about a different version but the process seems more complicated than logical. I’m going to wander to see my service advisor to see what he has to say …

In my prior 2024 GLE450, I tried to upgrade the headlights that came with the car, to the upgraded multi-beam LEDs. In theory, it was just a swap-out and swap-in. And physically, I swapped out the prior lights and swapped in the new lights…….but they would only turn on partially.

I learned later, that there are additional requirements “under the hood”, than just physically swapping in the new set of lights, including the need to include multiple sensors under the car, needing to tap into the wiring system of the car etc., since there are a ton of interconnectedness within the various systems, which make it difficult to do a simple swap-out/swap-in. And of course, the second you touch the electrical/wiring system, warranty denial issues crop up. Not worth it.

Please keep me updated on what they say.

I did some research on the trim pieces and they were selling about $500ish on mbparts website (although I couldn't tell the different trims, e.g., if maple wood or piano black from the parts description). Since the tariff started, everything is marked as "discontinued" so I don't know if they will import those pieces or not going forward. If we could find a way to make switching the parts work, that would save some trouble, even if it means our cars need to stay with the dealer during the parts shipping process.

I doubt if tariffs have anything to do with the "discontinued" designation. Over the last couple of years I have seen many parts in the online dealer catalog for my EQS SUV and E53 listed as "discontinued". If I look up a part like 214-817-00-00, the MB star trunk emblem, it shows discontinued in the MB online parts catalog for several MB dealerships. But it is readily available, as a new part, from an MB dealer on eBay. There are a lot of errors in the online catalog as well. For example, if I look for parts in a category like wheels for my W214 E53 I will get a list of wheels for a W213 chassis and none for the W214 wheels.

Yeah interesting timing when they marked as discontinued though. I was actually looking for the part numbers back by the end of March and it was available on all dealer websites. By early April they were all discontinued, so it's hard to imagine it's not related to tariff. Regardless, knowing that me and dB have exactly what we want will make things easier :-)

Hear me out here... just have it professionally wrapped with anything you want?
I personally have had the wood color be a deal killer for me on previous deals I've worked on, but always thought to myself I can always have it wrapped.

Vid below I found:

saw the service advisor today and he offered that about 2 hours would be sufficient for the exchange so that Q is now known. and I got the part number for the maple (mine) is 214-680-52-04 and yours is then likely some iteration of the 52 - likely 51, 50 or similar. as you likely know the part numbers you find on the web don’t give deeper descriptions. the dealer provided a price of $456. if you don’t mind, send me a pic of your interior and your vin so I can confirm we’re talking about the same thing.

Here are the pics. I think it's what you wanted and it is the $150 charge on my window sticker. I have just reached out to my service advisor now and am waiting for him to get back to me. I would assume we need to leave the car at the dealer while shipping happens.
