Removal of lower trim in E450 AllTerrain

I’d like to remove the chrome trim from below the doors of my E450 AllTerrain to facilitate vinyl wrapping. Although I assume they pop off I’m not brave enough to simply pry on it with my trim tools. Any advice?

Just the chrome bits.

Super interested in this also... the chrome seems a bit too wide as compared to the chrome on the upper parts of the car (around the windows, etc.) and a bit unbalanced so would also like to tone it down a bit.

This diagram, previously posted by LAZARU5, and can be found at https://www.discountbenzparts.com/oe...rip-2146988100, gives some insight into how they are attached...

wish Mercedes had better part search and diagrams!

I'm an amateur at wrapping, but I have done a few trim pieces without removing them. So, I'd suggest to attempt wrapping the trim without removing it. I'm just always afraid that once you start removing pieces they very often don't go back on as tight.

Spoke to my Service Advisor today and he seemed sure that the chrome and the attached black plastic one off as an assembly. It began simply enough with a series of 10mm plastic nuts with 2 8mm metal bolts and a couple of plastic push pins. Then the pesky final attachments, likely the illustrated 200, 220, 240, 260 & 280 - as I had no idea to pull out, pull down … you can imagine. So I’m hoping that a pro can give some advice.

Found some pictures of 220 in the diagram below (Fastening Clip | A0009915902)... you might be able to find the others there also. Does the diagram below match reality (your car)?

Zooming in on the photo, it looks like there are slots (a little blurry in the image) where the red arrows point. It looks like these slots are what is captured by the tabs in 200 and 220.

time for jackstands and more removal of panels. I’m not sure of anything but with a more sighted review may come bravery. Stay tuned. Thanks Chuck for the images.

If you want that chrome to be black, you could buy the night package version of part number 11 in the diagram... I think the part number for the black variant (left side) is 214-698-80-00.

I gave up on trying to remove the lower trim, went to our vinyl shop and for them, it’s no big deal to wrap it in a material that is close to the plastic in color and texture. So that’s next but the graphics are done.

Looks better in black for sure. My car has the night package and here it is in black. In chrome it just stands out a little too much.

I purchased the left rear chrome trim piece for the W214 E53 in order to understand how the locking tabs secure it to side skirt. Here are a few photos that show the seven tabs, three along the lower edge and four on the top edge. The chrome strip is mounted at about a 45 degree angle, but the tabs are positioned to be inserted directly towards the center line of the car. Once I figure out how to release the tabs I will post more details.

W214 E53 side skirt trim 214-698-83-00 (left, rear)

Agree - too much chrome that low on the car. And to think it’s only $200 to click the Night Package. Sigh.

On the E53 the Night Package is $750 and the Night Package Plus is $1300. These options are mutually exclusive and both have the black trim on the side skirts.

Done. With the lower chrome trim wrapped your eye isn’t drawn to the lower portion of the car. But … now the lower chrome on the front and rear may need help too.
