Great informative thread on the foreseeable cost of maintenance. but I'm gonna have to agree with the super wiss commenter. I do believe buying the prepaid plan has a better savings, then paying as you go. Mercedes advertised on the website the prepaid plan has a 30 percent savings over the course of the plan. Unfortunately i feel like if you pay as you go Mercedes dealer use that more of an opportunity grab to pull more money from customer. I live in maryland and i have more than 6 dealership within a 10-30 miles radius of me i called each one for an amount for a service appointment on a 2023 c300 each one gave a different prices for Service A for 10,000 miles those prices were

1. $395
2. $475
3. $550
4. $600
5. $375 not including tax
6. $294 not including tax
7. $150 - $500 (couldn’t even give an exact number)

with these particular cost into effect had i purchased the prepaid plan i could of just went to any shop got the service done and went home. And not worry about being nicked and dime.

also keep in mind this was a year ago I'm sure each one went up in cost as of now.

So I'm going to say this:
While the service procedure bulletin is very informative, I don't think that the tech(s) actually do everything on that list when you take your vehicle in. If they did all of that then the price would seem justified, however if all they do is change the fluids then it's massively overpriced. I'd love to hear what a qualified service tech has to say about this, but in my opinion they do not perform the checks.

As for what is really required:
I know it's not a E53, but my 2014 W212 has almost 250k miles on it and I did every oil change myself, I had the dealer do my first transmission oil change at 100k (I had a warranty replacement of the entire transmission due to an outdrive bearing grind that was due to tolerance stacking in the drivetrain at 37k) then each subsequent one was done by an indy. I didn't even replace my spark plugs until I was at 130k miles and I needed new brakes at the same time which I did myself at home. I also had to replace the airmatic rear springs twice, the front and rear struts once at 200k miles and the engine mounts and control rod bushings. I also had my rear drive shaft replaced at around 180k mark by an indy, $600 in parts and the same in labor. The W212 is extremely easy to work on, it's been a tank and I absolutely love it. Let's hope the W214 E53 is the same.

Knowing what I know, I would not buy the prepaid plan, we didn't buy it on the GLC either.

You can buy prepaid maintenance from any dealer. Each dealer sets their own price. You can then use the pre-paid maintenance at any dealer of your choice. Ten years ago, prepaid maintenance in Westchester was substantially less than the regular dealer price, making the prepaid maintenance a no-brainer. In more recent years, the local prepaid maintenance has not been discounted as much. You can get some quotes and see if prepaid makes sense for you.

On an AMG expect to wear out the inside of the tires quickly due to camber.

My W214 E53 is my ninth MB, but only the first AMG. I am not experiencing increased wear on the inside edge of the tires. After 13200 miles the front tires are wearing evenly across the tire with an 8/32 tread depth. The inside and outside outer treads of the rear tires measure 7/32. The inner tread on the tire that was on the passenger side for 7K miles measures 6/32. Originally the rear tires were inflated to 46 psi. I have reduced the cold pressure to 40 psi to improve ride quality and tread wear.

W214 E53 right front tire after 13.2K miles.

Thanks for the post. This is good news! I'm glad the E53 is not wearing the inside of the tire.

The tires should last longer with even wear. I also missed the worn inside tread multiple times, including once where I was close to the belts. I could see decent tread on the outside of the tire, not realizing that the inside was wearing quicker.

The E53 has decent tire options too.

I see a dealer in Connecticut advertising 30% off on prepaid maintenance.

If the old terms still apply, if you no longer have the car but have prepaid maintenance, you don't get a refund. There is a risk versus reward decision where you need to guess if you will still have the car for the length of the prepaid maintenance.

@E53DadWagon It is much easier to do the calculation on Mercedes prepaid maintenance versus the BMW X5 prepaid. With your BMW X5, to decide on prepaid maintenance you have to guess if you are going to need new brakes within 4 years. With Mercedes, you just need to guess if you are going to own the car at the time of the scheduled services.

FWIW, this depends on where you live and the laws in your state. Here in California, the above is incorrect. By law, unused portions of anything prepaid must be refunded and cannot be recognized as revenue until the service has been rendered. We deal with this all the time as a consulting company. If a customer doesn't use prepaid services, we have to refund the money. California is pro consumer, whereas many other states are pro business and screw over the consumers.

I prepared a table summarizing the maintenance schedule for the W214 chassis earlier this year. See post #12 on this thread.

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...questions.html

The only two services that are E53 specific are 1) Changing Rear Axle Oil, if you have the optional Electronic Locking Differential, at 60K miles, and 2) Replace Battery Coolant at 120K miles.
