Do build dates change?

I ordered an E53 wagon in mid-August and got a build date of 12/21/25. I was curious if those dates change along the way. Congrats on your new car….looks amazing.

I can't speak for the wagons but my sedan order/build date did not alter. The only delay was when it arrived to the US.

my wagon bike date did not change from late August. It’s at the port with an ETA at dealer on 9/22.

Build dates should not change, but your order can get cancelled. It's not common, but I've seen some reports on this site of a canceled order. A good general estimate is you should get your car about 2 months from the build date. Some get it faster and others wait longer.

Production of my wagon pushed about two weeks from the originally scheduled build date.

Even though I am a wagon guy, the color combo on this sedan, certainly looks fantastic. Enjoy your car.

Great looking car. I ordered a 450 in the same color. So the dealer will do the tinting? What did you ask for with respect to the tint? I've never done tinting, but I am thinking about it this time. What's the consensus on tinting?

I would get the tinting done at a high-end specialized tinting place, where you would have a lifetime, transferable warranty, than at a dealership. The dealership would at best farm it out to a specialized tinting place.

All of my cars get the 3M Crystalline film, on ALL glass surfaces, including the windshields and Panoramic glass. Expensive, but totally worth it, IMO. My film is near transparent and you would not know that there's film on it. The film cuts out 100% of the UV (zero UV entering the passenger space) and almost the entirety of the Infra-red radiations, and you return back to a reasonably cool car, despite baking in hot sun, all day.

I had mine tinted at the dealer before delivery and they threw it in for free (we all know it’s not really free). I had them do ceramic tint, dark in the back and legal on the fronts..

You are correct. The price was wrong months ago in the dealer configurator, so I contacted Mercedes-Benz USA about the issue. The wagon gets the “manual rear-side window sunshades” instead of the sun protection package on the sedan. I’m glad they updated the price accordingly.

I have never purchased a custom ordered car so this is all new to me and I want to be prepared if I make an offer that if they say no I can walk away. I contacted all the dealerships in about a 2 hour drive from here. Some have said that they can't get the Alpine Grey. One said they won't have an allocation for another quarter. Two have said they can do the Alpine Grey and this is one of them...waiting to hear from a couple more...
With Mercedes, discounting depends on the time, the dealer location and the demand for the car. I have been told that G wagons will sell between MSRP and $10,000 over MSRP with a year wait. Locally they sell at MSRP and in California they are $10,000 over MSRP. (I haven’t bothered to confirm this claim since I am not shopping for a G wagon.) AMG GT 2 doors will sell at a discount as they are moving slowly now in my area.

When the E53 wagon was announced I, inquired about possible discounts at Mercedes of Goldens Bridge in Westchester, NY. I was told that it was likely that they would not charge over MSRP and most certainly would not charge under MSRP. So I placed an order at a Connecticut dealer that didn’t want to talk pricing or discounts and hedged my bets getting a discount, but not placing an order at the Mercedes dealer in Rochester, NY.

I would bet that I could get a discount at a large dealer in New Jersey, two hours away, but I like the salesman, James Jones, at the Rochester dealership. I would probably order directly from, James, instead of locally, since the local price is still in question, but my car will arrive in December or January and I’d rather not drive it past salt trucks on the highway before it gets paint protection film.

If you don’t mind driving an hour, or two, or five, you will probably get a discount on an E53. If I try to get a discount at my in town BMW dealer, it will be much harder than getting a discount from a BMW dealer an hour away.

Mercedes likes to move cars in December, so if you find a car on a lot in December, or your order delivers in December, the dealer can pass on incentives to the customer. At other times during the year, Mercedes will have incentives, or the dealership may be close to hitting a number and getting a manufacturer’s incentive for the dealership and they will have a reason to discount.

I suspect that some sales people go for high volume and don’t mind discounting to get referrals whereas other salespeople try to go for maximum commission at the cost of losing some sales. Within a single dealership, the salesperson you work with may be more inclined or less inclined to discount.

When you buy an E53, it will be the same if you order it from a dealer 10 minutes away or 1 hour away. If you don’t mind driving an hour to save thousands of dollars, then you should be able to get a discount. Since you called dealers within a 2 hour radius, I would expect that at least one dealer will discount unless they have a line for the allocations.

In 2022, I went to buy an E450 wagon only to find that the local dealers changed the price to $10,000 over MSRP earlier in the week. So I bought a BMW X5 that I have been very happy with.

I haven’t forgotten that my local Mercedes dealers started charging $10,000 over MSRP in 2022, so now that demand is lower, I would strongly hesitate to buy a Mercedes at MSRP. With heavy discounting on BMW 7 series in my area, I can buy a 740i xDrive with the Executive package for less than I expect to pay for an E53. I will keep my options open until the new car is in the driveway.

If your local Mercedes dealers charge MSRP or over, BMW has a great lineup. You also have Audis, and Porsches that are price competitive with an E53.

The E53 wagon configurator with pricing has been available on mbusa.com for a few days. The first night, it wasn’t displaying pictures, but seems to be fully working now.

Saw on TikTok some salespeople were at AMG product training with the E53 wagon in Alabama, so there must be the car in the US already

Benzel Busch in englewood also posted some inventory now seen on the mbusa website with a price. Maybe we finally have some movement on price. My dealer said still expecting by end of Sept.

There are a handful of corporate-owned cars in the US. A few Graphite Gray cars went to the AMG Product Expert Training at Barber Motorsports Park. An Alpine Gray in Edition 1 guise was spotted at Monterey Car Week and (presumably the same car) in a garage in Atlanta.

I think there’s also a blue one at Barber as seen in this video which probably is not an edition one

Hopefully we’ll be go time with customer cars soon!

Not really a big update but my car is still at the port and not released to a carrier to transport.
